Versatile, economical and satisfactory performance...but!

Our Honda Jazz was purchased from Rowes Honda in Plymouth for a reasonable price and a generous dealer package on 28/08/12 with 22,000ml and a full dealer service record. We chose the Jazz for its versatility, economy and the good reviews particularly its reliability and quality. We have continued to have it serviced at Rowes at the suggested intervals and in general we have been pleased with the performance, economy and its load carrying ability. Like many Japanese cars there was a recall for an airbag fault which was carried out at the dealer but needed a return to fix the dashboard properly. Another recall has been advised for the drivers side.

After the major service 25/04 52397ml £338 including clutch fluid change, we became aware of a whine which I assumed to be an overtight belt. As this whine increased I returned to the dealer for an inspection and was advised that gearbox bearings would need replacing at a cost of £819 and the mechanic indicated this was quite common. I have since read that the Jazz has slipped down the reliability ratings and that many others have experienced gearbox problems (some on your website and also the owners Forum) Fortunately my local garage was able to carry out the work for considerably less and also said they had done several.

Still like the Jazz but I am disappointed that various communications with Honda Customer Service have not elicited a more positive outcome. So, if you own or intend to buy a Jazz take out an Extended Warranty and let a trusted local garage do your servicing.
