2.2 i-DTEC Tourer automatic

A great long distance tourer at a good price

I bought my Honda Accord to replace a very unreliable Nissan X-Trail diesel. I was shopping for a CRV when I saw the tourer in the showroom and decided it was more practical. I'm a road cyclist so the extra length of the tourer made a lot of sense. Before I bought I did a lot of internet research on the diesel engine and could find no problems. I also looked at the BMW and Audi but to get the same spec I would have needed to pay about 20% more. A No Brainer!

I've since done 33 000kms in 2 years and am very happy with the car. The engine/gearbox combination is almost perfect so I only use the paddles on long descents and when overtaking. Fit and finish is good and it's extremely comfortable. It doesn't quite have the beautiful interior of the Audi - but it's much cheaper & bigger inside. It's really great on the open road, where it eats up the Kms smoothly, quietly and economically. It's also easy to drive round town - but gets quite thirsty in heavy traffic and it's a bit long for parking!.

Servicing has been fine - two annual services at about 15000km each which have been covered by the service plan. Only problem was a dead battery after it was left for 4 weeks in the garage. The battery did not recover!

Downsides:
The length can be a problem in car parks. Thankfully it has parking sensors back & front.
In mixed driving I get about 38 mpg - not quite what was promised on the windscreen label but Ok (Note that I live in South africa and our fuels are not very good quality)
I was told at the last service that the disk pads will need changing "soon" and they're quite expensive.
The speed control occasionally kicks out without warning (I gather there's a software fix for this)

Overall - a very competent and reliable car. I'll buy another one in a few years' time!
