Overall reliability

Very sporty to drive yet enough space for four and their luggage

With the 7 speed auto gearbox, the 1,5l 3 cylinder turbo engine is lively and delivers all the performance you can possibly use on the roads. Don’t bother with the 20i, the difference is just unusable and a waste of money. And don’t buy a diesel, they’re noisy and drop in value quicker. The seats are excellent: with the M Sport you get electrically adjustable side bolsters and pull out thigh supports but I wish they had adjustable lumbar support. The instruments are clear and the idrive satnav superb. You’ll never want a touch screen again once you’ve tried BMW iDrive. Really handles well, though the ride can be rough on concrete roads with joins and potholes.
Overall, X2 in the right spec (like mine!) is a great all rounder and the build quality is superb. I’ve only done a few thousand miles in it but it feels really well put together and there’s nothing I’d ask a dealer to fix if he asked!
