BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (2014 - 2021)
218i 1.5 SE 5dr
Reasonable but not exciting. Unimpressed with BMW warranty.
I was disappointed to see the drivetrain warning light illuminated at 15,000 miles on the clock - two year old car. A trip to the BMW dealership, resulted in the diagnosis that a new clutch was required. The cost, £1,358.90. I was just fortunate that the flywheel could be salvaged otherwise I’d have been charged another £1,000.
Having asked that the work be carried out under the new car warranty (which still had another year to run), I was told that wear and tear wasn’t covered. Having driven a diverse range of vehicles over my thirty eight year driving history, including a Peugeot 309 owned for thirteen years from new, I have never had to replace a single clutch, which wouldn’t indicate driver habits which would be likely to result in such a rapid demise of the clutch.
Admittedly, I bought the car with 7,000 on the clock, but surely a clutch should last beyond 15,000 miles? I’m also disillusioned about the BMW three year new car warranty which hasn’t lived up to my expectations.
