Curate's egg

Why the dickens do you suppose my 17000 mile Audi TT should need new brake discs and pads? This is the same car I wrote to HJ about when it was leaking water - published in Good& Bad 19-10-2016. (It's at least been watertight since then, but its fancy virtual dashboard had to be replaced under warranty.) Is it perhaps the case that the Germans are using shoddy components to keep their prices down and profit margins up? I had a W211 Mercedes a few years ago that needed new brakes at similar low mileage - in year 1 of ownership. The various Peugeots, large and small, that I've run (four since 2005) don't have these issues of component qualityeven at three or four times the mileage. Grrr!
