A superb long distance mile eater

This is my second A4 avant. Both have been lower powered TDi on company leases. I normally do around 35,000 miles pa consisting of a mix of business and long distance family trips. The first went back at 130,000 miles. Everything worked well and it had only one fault (engine management system) which did not result in a breakdown. The current car is a year old, has 40k on the clock and has been - touch wood - faultless. Both receive(d) dealer service when recommended by the computer at 18-19,000 mile intervals. The A4's star turn is long distance motorway and dual carriageway runs on which it is very comfortable, adequately powered, economical and well-designed. My long term average mpg on the computer is 47. My wife can achieve over 50. Round town it is around 42. A two hour motorway hack with the cruise control at 80ish will yield a trip average of 48 in sixth. Seats are good and the technik's leather is toddler resistant. Climate control is fab. Cruise control is strongly recommended (cost option on most models, standard on technik). Standard radio cd is fine. On country roads the suspension is a little soft and the steering a little wooden - hence many reviews recommend the BMW320. The standard A4 is far from bad. It is set up for comfort rather than boy racing. The boot has always been sufficient for a young family and a keen diy-er. Service from Coulsdon Audi has been excellent. This is a highly competent practical understated car and I hope to get a third when the lease runs out.
