2022 SsangYong Korando e-Motion EV: price, specs, release date

  • SsangYong’s first EV revealed
  • Korando e-Motion gets plus-200mile range
  • Priced from £30,495

SsangYong has built a strong reputation for producing dependable cars – which is backed up by its performance in our Satisfaction Index – and now it has a new EV joining the line-up, it’s called the SsangYong Korando e-Motion.

2022 SsangYong e-Motion price and release date

The Ssangyong Korando e-Motion will be revealed in a month or two with prices starting from £30,495 once you’ve subtracted the government’s low-emission plug-in car grant. It's a rival to electric cars such as the Peugeot e-3008, Kia e-Niro and Hyundai Kona Electric

That £30,495 Korando e-Motion ELX comes with a decent level of kit that includes a 12.3-inch digital dashboard display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a reversing camera. Safety should be strong thanks to automatic emergency brakes, lane-keep assist and auto-dipping headlights.

Ventura models start from £34,995 and add synthetic leather seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, rear parking sensors and have TomTom sat-nav built into their nine-inch infotainment screen.

Ultimate models are, well, the ultimate version of the Korando e-Motion adding delights such as a real leather interior, front seats that are electrically adjustable, heated and cooled, plus heavily tinted windows. A heat pump means the car can warm its cabin more efficiently, you get a powered boot lid, front parking sensors and wireless phone charging.

2022 SsangYong Korando e-Motion interior and exterior design

The SsangYong Korando e-Motion is based on the standard Korando so radical visual changes aren’t to be expected.

Instead, it gets your standard electrification job, there’s a bluff grille, aero-style wheels and a sprinkling of EV-blue highlights.

The Korando itself is a handsome machine held back by a badge that isn’t as widely recognised as rivals but hey, when you get a standard seven-year/150,000mile warranty, who’s caring about badges…

You especially won’t care when you realise the Korando e-Motion – like every other Korando – gets a cabin that’s custom built for family life. As well as getting the aforementioned generous kit levels, there’s room for four adults and a boot that’ll swallow almost anything, within reason.

2022 SsangYong Korando e-Motion motor, range and charging

The SsangYong Korando e-Motion has a 140kW electric motor that produces an equivalent of 190PS and 360Nm of torque, acceleration has yet to be quoted but expect it to feel nippy off the lights. Top speed is limited to 97mph to preserve the battery.

Behave yourself and the e-Motion can squeeze 211 miles out of its 61.5kWh battery – about 70 miles less than the less practical Kia e-NIro – in a mixture of driving. Standard regenerative brakes mean you’ll go further than that if you stay within the city, where the brakes can replenish the batteries more effectively.

Why do you never recommend the SsangYong Tivoli as a practical value for money SUV?

Why do you never recommend the SsangYong Tivoli as a practical value for money SUV? Having owned two top of the range models, one diesel and one petrol. I have found the car, reliability and dealership superb.
You're not alone - SsangYong was named the best performing manufacturer in our 2018 Satisfaction Index. We do recommend the Tivoli a lot to people looking for a good value crossover. It's still a niche choice, though - many buyers might be better catered for with a Suzuki Vitara or Honda HR-V.
