Hyundai Kona Hybrid: 56.5mpg crossover on sale next month

Published 08 August 2019

A hybrid version of the Hyundai Kona crossover will go on sale in September priced from £22,495.

The brand has previously advertised fuel economy figures of up to 72.4mpg under NEDC tests - but this has now been dropped to a combined figure of 56.5mpg under WLTP tests, which are intended to be more reflective of real-world driving.

The Hyundai Kona Hybrid shares its drivetrain with the Ioniq Hybrid, combing a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 1.56kWh battery and 32kW motor to deliver a 141PS and 265Nm of torque, via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Kona Hybrid will have a towing capacity of up to 1300kg - meaning it'll be capable of lugging a small caravan.

Trim levels mimic those of the standard Kona, starting from SE trim upwards. The SE specification costs £22,495 and features 16-inch alloy wheels (unique to the hybrid model), bespoke white accents inside and white stitching on the seats. There's also a seven-inch touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well a reversing camera and a host of driver assistance features such as lane keep assist and driver attention alert.

Priced from £24,295, the Kona Hybrid Premium features a Krell premium sound system, keyless entry and wireless phone charging. There's also a 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system, 18-inch wheels and Hyundai's SmartSense 2 safety pack.

The top-spec Kona Hybrid Premium SE starts at £27,195 and comes with LED headlights and tail lights, leather seats with white stitching, front seats which are heated, ventilated and electrically operated, as well as a head-up display.

Kona Hybrid customers can choose from eight colours while, in typical Hyundai fashion, a five-year unlimited-mileage warranty will also be included.

Hyundai has also announced prices for its updated Ioniq, which starts at £22,795 and will arrive in showrooms from September.
