Geneva Motor Show 2019: hot Volkswagen T-Roc R revealed

Volkswagen has revealed its 300PS T-Roc R crossover at the Geneva Motor Show - with prices expected to start at around £36,000 to take on the Cupra Ateca and Audi SQ2.
Essentially an SUV version of the popular Volkswagen Golf R hot hatch, the T-Roc is powered by a four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 300PS and 400Nm of torque. It’s equipped with all-wheel-drive and a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox as standard, and hits 62mph in 4.9 seconds.
Volkswagen promises ‘agile driving behaviour’, with lowered sports suspension and progressive steering as standard. It also shares 17-inch brakes with the Volkswagen Golf R Performance.
There’s the usual array of driving modes, including a special race mode. This features a launch control feature, optimising traction during quick acceleration.
Of more interest in the real world is its sporty interior, with R motifs dotted around the cabin. There’s a sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, while the pedals are finished in stainless steel. Leather seats are available as an optional extra.
On the outside, the Volkswagen T-Roc R features bespoke front and rear bumpers, along with a double-ended exhaust system. 18-inch alloy wheels are standard, while 19-inch alloys are available as an optional extra.
The Volkswagen T-Roc R will go on sale in the autumn.
