Hyundai announces all-new Kona

Published 03 April 2017

Hyundai is planning to add another crossover to its UK model line-up. The all-new Kona will rival the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Mokka X and cost in the region of £15,000 when it goes on sale in late 2017.

The Kona - which is named after a Hawaiian island - will join the Santa Fe and Tucson in the Hyundai range and go head-to-head with the Nissan Juke. It will most likely share its powertrains with the new i30, with efficient 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre petrols offered alongside the familiar 1.6-litre diesel.

There are no pictures of the new crossover - bar a teaser image of the headlight - but we expect the Kona to get its official launch in the summer. A production-ready version could make it to the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. If that is the case then the Kona should reach UK showrooms by December.

It has already been a busy 2017 for Hyundai, with the launch of the all-new i30 hatch and estate. The long-awaited N brand - Hyundai's high performance division - is also expected to go live this year and kick-off with the launch of a hot hatch i30.
