Citroen C6 2.7 HDI - Warrantywise- am I wasting my time? - nook

I've just been contacted by a customer that bought a C6 from me roughly 7 months ago. I supplied him with a Warrantywise Silver warranty (12mths)the highest level of cover for the car available due to age and mileage. It cost £288.
He's had a problem with the alternator, it stopped working! The warranty booklet clearly states that alternators are covered by the Silver level warranty. The garage have removed the alternator, confirmed the fault ( pulley failure) and submit a claim to warrantywise. The claim was rejected. Warrantywise are stating that the pulley is not part of the alternator therefore is not covered. Am I wrong I thinking that the pulley is most certainly a part of the alternator? I've never seen one without a pulley in my life.
I'm most disappointed by this. Should I fight it? Am I wasting my time?

Ask Quentin Wilson. Acording to the adverts in which he endorses said company they are the best.

But like all warranty companies their sole aim is to avoid paying claims. Look in the fine print, there will no doubt be a definition that confirms they are correct, normally all peripheral parts are excluded.

Ask Quentin Wilson's

Wallet?

Presumably the OP is a trader, the garage who we bought the Outlander from goes about warranties slightly differently, he warrants the cars himself, so anything that goes wrong in the first 6 months he puts right.

During our conversations he mentions certain makes that he doesn't deal with due to the sheer cost of putting anything right...not necessarily unreliable but should they fail the cost is outrageous...he's been trading for 18 years and i can find nothing on the net bad about him, so must be doing something right.

Unusual, but surprisingly reassuring for the used car buyer.

The answer from an aftermarket warranty company is what i suspect 99% of us here would expect, you the trader lose credibility too, no win win situation here.

By the way, can't a new pulley be fitted quite cheaply to the existing alternator by a auto electrician..if you can find one.

I've had Lucas exchange alternators in the past-they've never come with a pulley-the alternator may be fitted to a number of vehicles but the pulley is vehicle dependent.Changing the pulley takes about 30 seconds.

I wonder how much commission you made out of selling something that in reality was to cover something that was your responsibilty. You should repair the customers car at your expense and reinburse the WW fees.

I did not charge for the warranty, it was included in the sale price of the vehicle. It was bought to give the customer and myself peace of mind. I will repair the customers car for them of course. I value my customers, and try to lok after them as much as i can.

By starting this thread I was trying go get some help/info whether it's worth my while complaining, or if anyone else has had similar problems when claiming for alternators.

There are lots of parts fitted to cars that run off pulleys, a/c pas, water etc. I wonder if thesame theory applies to all these parts?

Not worth the paper they are printed on!

I've written this so much on the HJ forum I'm getting rather bored with it.

For a policy that is supposed to be strait forward the T & C's are amazingly long, 28 pages in all.

Cannot see where pulleys are excluded but no doubt someone will be able to interpret it better than me.

Perhaps I am pedantic, but if the warranty was included in the sale price, would not the sale price have been lower without this warranty of questionable value?

You need to contact your Local CItroen parts supplier (genuine) and ask if the alternator they supply comes with the pulley, or if it can be bought separatley to the alternator if it cant then regardless of how other companies sell it, the main agent should take precedence.

These are fitted with an over-run alternator pulley. These can be bought as a seperate part, and provided that the alternator shaft is not damaged, then a new pulley can be fitted. If you buy a complete alternator, then it will come with a new pulley. So my take on this ,is if the alternator is ok and it is just the pulley faulty, then I would think the warranty company are within their rights to reject the claim.

If you're a trader supplying WW warranties with your cars, then I ask how many such warranties have yyou bought in the last 2 years?

Maybe you should ring up WW and tell them how much business you've put their way, how they are defiling your rep and suggest to them you will stop using them.

Wilson pushes dodgy warranties, Vordeman pushes dodgy loans....... spot a theme? They are getting paid handsomely. They don't give a stuff about you or your problems.

I've never bought an aftermarket warranty in my life. Not for a kettle nor a car. Not worth the paper they are written on.
