I had a crash in my wife's car - do I need to tell my own insurer or just hers?

I was driving my wife's car and we had a car crash. Both of us are covered fully comprehensive. Presumably, I'll need to inform my own insurance. The incident is being dealt with by my wife's insurance. No one was hurt, no alcohol involved, but her car will be off the road for several weeks. She is about to receive a courtesy car. When will I need to inform my own insurer (a different broker from my wife's)?

You should advise your own insurer that you have had an accident in your wife's car as soon as reasonably possible. Bear in mind this may well increase your premium. This should really be no longer than seven days after the incident. Never give an insurer an opportunity not to pay out, so always disclose.
