Can you recommend a used 4x4 for skiing?

We are looking to buy a used SUV with four-wheel drive. We don't plan to do serious off-roading, but will use the vehicle for ski trips to the mountains. As a result, the car must be comfortable for motorways and capable in snowy conditions. We have £20,000 to spend. For that amount, we have narrowed our search to the following: 2010 Audi Q5,
2011 Volvo XC60 and the 2014 Mazda CX-5.

Apparently the auto-gearbox on both the Volvo and the Mazda is not that responsive; we drove an XC90 on holiday last year and were frustrated with the lag from the auto gearbox when trying to pull away, so that is a concern. Also, considering the mileage used cars at this price will have done, will there be timing belt changes or other major works to worry about in the near future?

The Mazda actually had the best auto of all of these. Though the most tempting, the Q5 has a longitudinal wet clutch seven-speed DSG that doesn't have a completely unblemished record and neither do Volvo Geartronics.
