Which cars are easily insurable for a 17-year-old?

Our daughter will shortly be 17 and will learn to drive. We currently have a two-year-old Touran and a six-year-old MINI Cooper soft top. We assume both would be horribly expensive to insure for our daughter. We would be prepared to sell the MINI and trade it in for something that we could all drive, so long as it would not be dreadfully expensive for us to insure. What do you suggest - Ford Ka, Aygo, Peugeot 107? And are we right to assume it is better for our daughter to be an extra named driver on our policy to start with? My wife and I both have full no-claims and we are around 50 years old, living in a small town.

Yes, the C1, 107, Aygo, Pixo or Alto. They are all 1.0-litre 3-cylinder low emission, low insurance models. If your daughter is a named driver, you have to make sure that you regularly drive the car she drives, otherwise an insurance claim could be denied because you have been 'fronting' yourselves as the drivers of a car that she is really the regular driver of.
