Why do DSG 'boxes judder?

My wife has owned a Mk6 Volkswagen Golf DSG for nearly three years. She has loved it with one exception, the auto gearbox, which always shudders when moving off from stationary. I understand this was common on the MK6 and she would like to upgrade to the new MK7, but is worried that Volkswagen haven't cured this annoying problem. Can you offer any advice?

Standard feature, sometimes coupled with a delay because with a VAG DSG you have to touch the brake to move the lever from N to D and this sends a signal to the ECU that the car is being braked so it needs to cut power.
