Why have my insurance premiums been put up after a non-fault accident?

Several weeks ago I was parked in a secure car park when a council vehicle collided with my car. They immediately admitted liability. I arranged for vehicle repair and a hire car at no charge. Trying to renew my car insurance, I find the premium has increased substantially. Is there anything I can do about this? Conversations with insurance companies have just resulted in them reading their scripts. I found an FAQ on this subject, but the circumstances are different. Thanks for any help you can give.

If the accident was not your fault, then you shouldn't be penalised. If the accident has not been fully resolved yet, it may be the case that the insurance company is judging you (rightly or wrongly) to be a higher risk. They may take the view that although the council has admitted liability, this may change further down the line. Have you tried shopping around to see what other insurers are prepared to offer?
