What should I replace my Peugeot 206 with?

I'm looking to replace my 2001 Peugeot 206. I’m looking for something no older than about four years and no more than £9000. I’m drawn to another 206 (now 207), but the Toyota Yaris and Honda Jazz have also been suggested. I like the look of the Honda Civic but I think it’s probably going to be too expensive. As I’m retired, fuel efficiency and running/maintenance costs are paramount. What do you suggest and what issues should I be looking for?

You'll get a 2006-2011 Honda Civic 1.8i within budget and they can be remarkably economical. I've had 45mpg out of one on a long run. A Jazz is probably more practical and you'll get a current shape 1.4 within budget. It's best to go for the ES spec Hondas rather than the SE or EX. Avoid the Jazz i-Shift. Otherwise, yes, the Yaris 1.3, the Nissan Note 1.4 or 1.6 and the 207 are all okay. Most of these cars have been tested at: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/
