Which SUV offers good fuel economy and cheap road tax?

I've had a Shogun for a couple of years and it’s been faultless as a family runabout. I love the size, the 4x4 capability, comfort and the fact that everything works perfectly and always has. However, it loves fuel, as it’s the 3.2-litre auto. Can you suggest something else which is more fuel efficient and road tax friendly, but with all of the above qualities?

An Outlander 2.2-litre manual is chain cam, can be 4WD, handles really well for an SUV and in my hands did 45mpg, which is the best I've ever had out of any SUV. The only black mark is that there is now a new third generation Outlander on the way.
