Can I contest a bus lane penalty of 109 Euros issued whilst I was on holiday in Spain?

During a holiday in Italy in June 2009 it would appear I strayed into a bus lane, and have received a summons and a fine of 109 Euros. If I don't pay by 20 June 2010, it increases to 183 Euros. As I will never return to Italy, how do I stand? Do I have to pay? Can I contest it?
