Diesel engine fuel flush - was it necessary?

My wife's Clio Extreme dCi 86 had its first MOT today, and the garage, without our authority, carried out a fuel flush on it, charging us £20. This they said was to clean the engine of biofuel deposits, but I am not very happy about it.

The car has only ever been run on BP Ultimate diesel, in the belief that it would keep the engine clean, and I would appreciate your comments as to whether a fuel flush will have provided any benefit at all.

If the car was run on BP Ultimate there was no need for the flush.

You did not ask for it, so you can refuse to pay for it.
