Garage charging excessively and not repairing the problem
My X-Type is suffering excess fuel consumption and poor acceleration. My local garage stated it had two leaking diesel injectors and gave an estimate of £1000 to repair all four injectors, recommending that it would be better in the long run.
As the car is a 2004 model I questioned if the repair would make financial sense and they assured me it would. The repairs were carried out and I paid the bill, £1210.
Two weeks later the car still used excess fuel, had poor performance and had developed a loud diesel knock.
I returned the car and despite replacing a fuel flow valve the problem was not solved.
They informed me that it had taken three attempts to code the injectors and had reversed the polarity(?) to achieve this. They did not appear to have a solution other than to fit other new parts.
At this stage I took the car to a Jaguar dealer who infomed me that their policy would have been to replace the two leaking injectors, together with pipes which the local garage had not fitted.
The garage fitting the injectors states their charge is in line with Jaguar charges and refuses to reduce the bill.
The old injectors are not available for inspection - how do I stand?

You could threaten to take the matter to the small claims track of the county court and see if that changes their attitude. This is a Ford Mondeo engine. Any competent garage should know what to do.
