Seven Grand Tour

I recently went to Europe with my Audi A6 Avant Quattro 2.5 TDI and, notwithstanding that the car had been fully serviced by Audi Liverpool before I left, the car broke down in the middle of France with oil leaking from its gearbox.

It was Sunday afternoon and I had to be towed off the motorway to a depot, then on Monday I had to be towed to Audi Troyes.

The cost of the new gearbox was 6,000 Euros and car hire for 3 weeks cost a further 600 Euros.

I appealed to Audi for some help with these exorbitant costs as a gesture of goodwill to a customer who has had 3 top spec Audis over the last 20 years but they dismissed me quite coldly as the car is 7.5 years old and therefore is out of warranty. I would be grateful for your comments as our family holiday was ruined and I am 7,000 Euros out of pocket.

The car was seven and a half years old the time of the breakdown, six months older than its design life. People have made cars last a lot longer than this, of course. But any responsibility for them by the manufacturer comes to a dead end at 6 years old.
