Unused car

Our son has been at university in America and for the past four years his car has stood on our driveway. Apart from the obvious problems of getting it back on the road, a friend tells me that there is now a requirement that the car be taxed and insured, even though it is parked on private land. Is this correct?

Continuous insurance is a proposal, likely to be made law very soon under pressure from the Investment Banks and Private Equity Firms that now own the car insurance underwriters, car insurance brokers, accident management companies and credit hire operators and want a licence to print even more money than they already lift from us. The exceptions are if the car has been off the road since before 1st February 1998 (as in your case) or if a Statutory Off Road Notification is made.
