Emission warning light Honda Civic 1.6 VTEC SE - time to change

I've had trouble with the emission warning light on my Y reg 1.6 SE Honda Civic, 45,000 miles ( family owned from new ). This year, on three occasions, I've lost power/acceleration when the engine light appeared. It was on the slip road to the M1 at Brent Cross, First in queue, Hanger Lane gyratory. Unnerving, potentially dangerous.

The sensor was changed, three months later, light on again (no loss of power, YET). It's now, after 4 days cleared. Is this a HONDA fault? Why can no one diagnose the fault, one of 3 possibilities, each more expensive flash up. I have lost confidence and worry about the safety of my grandchildren should this happen again.

I now wish to change the car.

I drive around 5,000 miles per year. I often have 2 car seats in the back for the grandchildren. I would like room for those or 2 adults I am interested in the Honda Jazz but bothered by the Civic experience. I would like a manual, petrol car.

It's a 10 year old car. Time to get rid. Replace with a new Jazz, if you can get one (parts shortages from flooded factory in Thailand). Otherwise a Hyundai ix20 or as KIA Venga.
