Do I have to provide proof of my identity and address when buying a car from a dealer?
I recently bought and paid for a car from a car dealer who demanded I provide proof of my identity, my address and proof I had insurance before handing over the keys. This has never happened before when buying a car. Is this new law? Is the dealer required to do this?

While there is no law requiring proof of ID, the dealer is well within their rights to check for proof of ID and insurance before signing the car over to you. If not, they could be held liable on their own insurance if the car is involved in an incident further down the line.
