If you are considering buying a car from a broker it is important you read the terms and conditions carefully and establish in what capacity the broker is acting. If the broker is acting as a trader, then you are protected by the same regulations as buying from any dealer in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

If the broker is acting as a third party and is negotiating a sale on behalf of a private seller, then you are only afforded the same rights as anyone buying from a private seller, which means you only have the potential for redress if the car was significantly not as described or unroadworthy. If the sale with the broker is conducted entirely online then you have some protection with Consumer Contracts Regulations, which gives you the right to cancel an order within 14 days and receive a full refund, and a cooling-off period of 14 days once you have received the vehicle, but this only applies if the entire sale was conducted remotely, so if you collect the car from the dealer these rights do not apply.
