Attempted fraud?

Received a letter from company claiming my wife's car involved in accident, they obtained information on our address etc. from the DVLA. The claim is entirely bogus the named driver was a name we do not recognise. We received the letter after a phone call last week offering us a £3,000 accident claim which was not responded to except by putting the phone down. We have passed information to our insurance co. but its worrying as checking the insurance name on the net they seem to be a bona fide company. Our car is entirely undamaged. The letter is dated 7 days after the claimed accident but has taken a further 7 days to reach us. the details of the claim are scant. No time of the accident is given.
