Courtesy car for warranty repairs

My wife's car is due to have some paintwork repairs done under warranty. Honda Chester have referred it to an outside bodywork shop, who will provide a courtesy car but with a £1,000 excess. That on our own insurance policy is £100. It seems unreasonable that, because of a manufacturing defect, we are now expected to accept a considerably higher level of risk. Honda Chester's attitude - and I have spoken to its general manager - is take it or leave it. Do you have any advice, please?

Take it or leave it. This will only be a problem if you actually damage the courtesy car. But do check it over very carefully with a damage sheet before you drive it away and make sure they sign for any damage already present.
