Did I need to refund a deposit?

We tried to sell a vehicle on eBay and we got a buyer who wanted it without seeing it.

The listing said no MOT or road tax. They sent a deposit for £150.00 by cheque. When they came to see the vehicle they decided they didn't want it, but they expected the deposit back.

They also wanted to drive the vehicle back to surrey without Tax, MOT or insurance.

We came to a compromise of refunding £60 and we kept £90. What are the laws on deposits?

They were not entitled to anything back at all.
