Do I need to declare an insurance claim on a second policy?

I own two cars each of which is insured with separate policies and different companies. Unfortunately I may have damaged another vehicle when reversing. I will of course notify my insurance company. As I will not be making a claim for my own car will I still be liable for the policy excess? When the insurance for my other vehicle is due must I declare a previous claim on a different policy?

If the damage to the other vehicle was your fault, then you’ll have to pay the excess cost. You’ll also have to notify your insurer of any previous claims when it comes to renewal. That’s because claims go against the driver, and not the vehicle itself. So even if you’re insuring a different car to the one which was involved, your insurer will want to know about it.
