Having read your page today, I wonder at the intelligence of people who can drive a car for five years without noticing that it doesn't have a spare wheel. You must bite back the appropriate pithy thoughts that first come to mind before you write your polite comment. I think you are extremely tolerant. Idle fools deserve to suffer. In this nanny society, no one expects to have to think for him/herself any more. I am now 77 and have been driving since 1952, so I remember much better times.

I confess I do get angry at the readers who complain that they were not reminded by post that their VED was up for renewal. It's not as if the tax disc doesn't stare them in the face every time they use their car. You should see the mail from elderly drivers who refuse to left foot brake their automatics while manoeuvring, and consequently kill and maim quite a lot of their closest relatives as a result, blaming the car for 'running away' when they could, so easily, have prevented it.
