Do I need to inform my insurer that the named driver on our policy will now be the main driver?

My wife has unfortunately experienced some seizures since Christmas and voluntarily surrendered her driving licence. The DVLA have informed her that she won't be able to apply for her licence until 12 months after the date of her last seizure. Will she had to sit her driving test again? Also, we have two cars; one insured in each other's name with the other as named driver. On the car where I'm the named driver, do we need to inform the insurance company that the named driver will be the sole driver?

I would suggest contacting the DVLA to clarify her position on whether she would need a retest or not, as it does depend on her specific condition. If your wife is no longer the main user, then you should contact her insurer and make them aware. They generally are helpful in this situation as long as you have a vehicle yourself. They do generally allow you to continue the policy, even though your wife cannot drive the vehicle.
