  I have had a new Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S diesel for just over a month and am very pleased with it. However I have not been able to come close to the fuel consumption figures quoted by Ford. The company state 54mpg urban; 72mpg extra urban and 64mpg combined but I can manage only 53.7mpg combined.

  I have a Fiesta 1.3 LX 1996 Endura-E engine which has developed a problem in the Temperature Gauge giving a constant Maximum reading. It doesn\'t give a max reading when the ignition is on(ie. oil, brake, and battery light illuminated) only when the engine has started and within 2 seconds needles shoots to MAX reading. This fault only developed after I removed the starter motor to check the condition of the Flywheel.

  I did consider upgrading to a third ( or fourth, not sure) generation Jazz Sport, the discontinued model with the 1.5 litre engine, but there are few of them out there and they tend to be a bit beyond my pocket.  In particular I've been looking at the Ford Ecosport. Brought in as a replacement for the dear old B Max, it looks attractive and if you go for the Ecoboost engine seems to have decent performance. But that's all I know about the model. They're not cheap, but an Ecosport would be affordable if I get a reasonable part ex for the Jazz ( not a secure assumption as things stand in the second hand car market).

  The car needs to be of Fiesta / Clio size but not any smaller as I am 6' 3" and dont fancy hopping in and out of a Micra every time I fancy a drive. Budget is 5k max. Im not too bothered by style, reliability is the most important criteria, followed by economy and driving enjoyment. So far a 2006 / 07 used Fiesta 1.6 (this is the conventional auto version as opposed to the 1.4 semi) seems to fit the bill and comes in under budget but I keep reading bad reports about the reliability of the auto box on some Fords, is this model one of those with suspect reliability?

    I am a window cleaner and I also use it for work so I want another similar sized vehicle with a similar sized boot. I do not want an estate car or a diesel engine. I have been looking at another Ford Focus from the year 2015 but the Eco boost engines have had such a bed press and so has the powershift (I would prefer an auto over a manual). Vauxhall Astra seem to rate so badly in reviews.
