  I have bought a pre-registered Hyundai and the garage are saying I will not get the V5c form for 3 months. I have paid for the car and am collecting it on Friday. Will not having the V5C mean the car can't be properly insured by me for 3 months because I won't be the registered keeper on the V5C?

  help, ive forgotten to update my v5c of change of address , it was last year i bought the car. what will happen, what can i do? the car is being dismantled due to being a rtotal loss,and i just found my v5c and seen the old address on it. my insurance company need thev5c returned but its got the old address on it. should i return the v5c to dvlc and then it will be updated, and then send back to the insurance company?

  Hi there,   My car needs tax soon so I need to get on and get myself as registered keeper. Trouble is the v5c I have doesn't have the supplement and also the dealer hasn't signed the declaration. Can I use this v5c to send or would I need to just get a new one and tax it with that.   Thanks

  (Dealer isn't on board with that yet but I'm determined). The issue is that I've not received the new V5c yet.  Is it possible for me to sign it back to the dealer online using the ref number from the V5c I got when I purchased it or will this number change for the new V5c? If I can't sign it back online using the number from the previous V5c, what can l do to transfer ownership back to the dealer?

  Hi. Just bought this car but the previous keeper hasn't signed section 8 of the V5C. Need to tax it at the post office tomorrow so is this a problem? How about I just scrawl something myself...   lol   Thanks for any help, Rob.

  Failure to pay means that I will have to tax the car myself (not a problem) but also then process the V5C form myself. I’m just wondering if anyone could explain what this means exactly? Is it merely a case of me filling out some section of the V5C - putting myself down as the new owner and the dealer as the previous owner?

  The car was returned within 4 weeks of purchsing it and the dealer was ok with it so that wasn't an issue. But when I returned the keys and paper work I also returned the V5C/2 (A little green form) and it was returned before the main V5C certificate had come through to me. Was I supposed to keep hold of the V5C/2 untill the registration certificate had come through or is the person to whom I returned the vehicle to supposed to now contact the DVLA?

  The rest of the V5C is kept by myself until the vehicle is sold - whereupon: The buyer fills in the 'new keeper' section 6, and signs the right-hand declaration in section 8. I give the buyer section 10, then send the rest of the V5C back to DVLA.

  So I'm in the market to get a new car, and amongst the many brokers etc online I've found a very good price. I've done a fair bit of research and am aware of the V5C 'retention' that is used by brokers/dealers to get the big discount. In this case, the company I'm dealing with said that the V5C will be sent straight to me by DVLA after delivery (i.e. no 3 month retention).

If I notify the DVLA of my change of address so that my V5C can be updated, what happens if my new V5C is delayed or lost in the post? I'm aware DVLA say on their website it is 5 working days, but realistically, how long does does it take to receive the updated document?

  I am wondering under what circumstances, would a car dealer  be selling a car without a V5C? How would they buy buying / sourcing cars without the V5C? If this was an independent garage or private seller, I would have run a mile. However, I am intrigued.  Any pros / cons?

  Hi, My Ford Fiesta was stolen a few days ago from outside my girlfriend’s flat so going through the insurance processes as we speak. I’ve been asked to send my V5C to the claim handler but have noticed it has my old address on it and I moved from this address in May 2022. My license and insurance policy have been updated previously with my correct address but I’m concerned my claim might be denied based on the V5C having a different address on it, could this happen?

  About to sell me car and getting the paperwork ready i find I only have section 9,10,11, 12 of the V5C, seem to have lost its first page.  Can I proceed without the first page or must i buy a replacement document? Can I tell the DVLA of the sale online without the rest of the document? Tx

  I know that this car was very popular among motoring schools. Obviously i do not want one with such a past history. Does the V5C say whether the car has been used as such. What other ways can i find out whether a car has been used as such.
