  Can anyone tell me the law on used car warranties. I am thinking of setting up as a sole trader selling cars top the trade and public. If I retail a car to the public do I have to provide a warranty. Is there a limit on the retail selling price at which you don'y have to provide a warranty?

  My brother-in-law has been to view a 2004 Skoda at a small used car dealer. The dealer is only offering a one month warranty, his own warranty. Is this legally correct? I was under the impression used cars had to have a minimum of three months. The car has done about 85,000 miles, not sure whether that has any bearing on this.

  I would obviously like to keep the warranty and am quite ok with paying for an oil and filter job…..£149…but object to paying £382 for the dealer to do again what they have just done. Am I obliged to use the dealer to maintain the warranty or can I use an indie of course using genuine parts, ie, oil filter.

  Recently I've noticed some newer used cars have decent warranty periods on them, eg 10+ plate Toyota's, and the Kia's. However, I'm finding it really hard to put a value on the warranty, many people I've asked seem to feel the warranties aren't worth much on a car which is already proven.

  why do we still get a poor deal on car warranties in the UK? checking the VW Phaeton out, same car etc but UK get 3 years warranty and US get 5. Hyundai also get a 10 year power-train warranty in the US. Is it to do with out driving style?

  My first thought on these used warranties is 'yeah , as if they'll cover anything!'. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with APA or such 3rd party warranties before? In particular, common rail issues. Thanks in advance

  I'm a Yank about to buy my first car in England and I'm surprised at how short the warranties are. In the US, warranties of 70-100,00 miles are not unusual. Also Quaker State Oil offers a free 250,000 warranty if your oil is changed (using theirs) every 4000 miles.

  I'm looking at purchasing a Primera from a Used Car Dealer who is offering 3 months Warranty with it. The warranty cover is actually quite poor so I'm trying to work out what it costs them to apply this cover so I can negotiate the cost of it off the car.

  Hypothetical question: If I buy a used car with remainder of the maker's warranty from a dealer, but not a dealer working for the maker - who is responsible for any faults? For instance if the maker's warranty doesn't cover water leaks in the second and third year, yet the used car leaked within 2 weeks after buying it used, could a claim be made against the selling dealer?

  Purchased a car from an independant dealer. I didn't take the extended warranty but am aware (I think) of the 3 month statutory warranty which comes with buying a car from a dealer. They confirmed it comes with a 3 month warranty and gave me some paperwork.

  Is it the same policy in 12 month’s time as now? It seems a bit biased in my favour. If the car is perfect over the next 12 months, why bother? If the car is an absolute lemon, an extended warranty might be just the ticket.

  Hi guys i'm new to the forum On Tuesday i went to look at a used Mercedes B Class priced at £10,965.00 The salesman dealing with me told me that the actual price of the car is £10,665 and that the 6 month warranty had been priced in so £300 for the warranty.
