• BMW 320d air con - diesel smell 31 Jul 2006 (Forum)
  The leaks leave a stain hence I dont think they are water. The garage checked the car and say this is simply the air con discharge and is normal - but our air con (climate control system) still pumps through a major smell of diesel when sitting at a junction (ie no air flowing through car) The garage mentioned some kind of air con service they can do for £30 which will 'clean' the system - any ideas what this may be and whether it will address the diesel smell coming through.

  I was reading an Honest John answer to a query about air con smell; he said that some cars are worse than others. I have only owned two cars: 1, A 2000 reg Polo. 2, A 2007 used Prius. The former had no air con and thus gave me no such smell for 10 years of use.

  Hi there, Audi a1 issue for 3 months now, full service been done, fuel filter replaced and fuel cap replaced. Air con sensor replaced, car checker over 5 times for any leaks, nothing showing on computer. Any ideas what could be causing this, fuel smell only comes through when stationary or low speeds, spent a bit of money trying to resolve anybody had the same issue.

  I've looked through the FAQ section of the site but would appreciate any additional advice. When I switch my air con on a get a damp smell which eventually clears. Also if I switch it off while travelling, it tends to steam up the front windscreen and the air gets a warm a damp smell which takes quite a while to disperse!

  Somewhere I recall reading about a cure for this. Did it involve ammonia in a bowl in the car with the system running? Killing the bacteria? Advice please...

  Ladies and Gentlemen, I have had a 1999 Vhall Astra 1.8 CDX for about ten months and i am getting a musty smell from my Air Con. If I switch between the two I get the smell for a bit but it clears in five or ten minutes. I have thought it may be the pollen filter. Would be grateful if anyone could provide advice.

  the air con was working on my 99 diesel sharan. the problem started when there was a strong electrical burning smell. this blew the fuse and stopped the air con. i replaced the fuse but no air con.  is this problem the electro coupler???

  last year i had my air con serviced by vw and it worked fine. in august we had the air con blowing then suddenly there was a electric burning smell and the air con stopped working and blew the fuse. i put a new fuse in and turned on the air con which blew it straight away.

  I own a 2004 Vectra Sri.I am the 2nd owner.When I use the air-con and then turn it off,after a while there is a "stale" smell.It smells like sweaty socks (I imagine).The dealer told me they drained and recharged the system, but it's much the same.How do I get rid of this??

  When I have the air con switched on there is a funny smell coming out, a bit pongy. Think I readu somewhere about bacteria that breeds in a/con systems? Or could the pollen filter be blocked? Any ideas/suggestions welcome.

  Anyone else have a big problem with their Vauxhall Omega misting up in rainy weather? I find I often have to use the air con to clear it, putting the demister on usually agravates the problem. It seems that the air from the vents without the air con always smells a bit "humid" to me, would this be the pollen filter that needs replacing?

  Hi, Bit of advice please, I had the air con on the other day, when all of a sudden there was a noise like gas escaping, a funny smell and the air con now only blows hot. I am going to take it somewhere next week, but any ideas what is wrong and what sort or bill i could be expecting.

  So is this normal, is it a problem and if so what does it mean and do I need to do anything about it. The Air con is working fine, kicks in when its switched on, nIce and cold in the car and the air smells clean as well. Not sure if its linked but when idling can hear a click every so often it dont happen all the time but this click only happens when the aircon is on.

  Have just bought this car on occasionally get a damp / fusty smell from the vents. This happens with and without the air con. I read that there should be a Pollen Filter below the dash beneath an access panel above the footwell but I cannot find it.

  If I put the ventilation system in recirc it stops it. The air con is off so I don't think it's coming from that. My local dealer (admittedly in France) is baffled and so am I Any suggestions as to the cause would be welcome Jules
