  However, this does not always work and the extra fuel can instead find its way into the engine sump, contaminating the lube oil and sometimes leading to such a rise in sump oil level that the engine can start to run uncontrollably on its sump oil and will self-destruct. Peugeot/Citroen/Ford diesel engines don't need to get quite as hot as diesels in other makes because they use an additive to help regenerate the DPF. This used to be added to a tank under the back seat, but is now contained in a bladder that needs to be repalce around every 100,000 miles.

  AsBlue is a non-toxic, colourless solution of urea and water-based fluid added to the exhaust system of diesel engined cars and trucks in order to reduce the NOx emissions to a level compliable with EU6 and now WLTP. It is contained in a separate tank with a separate external filler (Mercedes, Jaguar, Peugeot) or must be replenished by a dealer (some earlier AdBlue systems). It is on sale at fuel stations in 10 litre containers at around £16. Enough to last 6,000 miles costs between £16 and £32, depending on the size of the engine. 4.7 litre containers and 2 litre containers are also available and come with spouts for easier refilling.

  Here is a Scotia Inspections engineer's report on a failed Dual Mass Flywheel in a Peugeot 407 diesel: The dual mass fly wheel was still in situ. The engineer could move the fly wheel back and forth, clearly the unit had excess movement between the primary and secondary flywheel on the 8 centre bolts, the fixing stud holes had clearly excessively stretched.

  However, the EC has issued a Directive that a new refrigerant: HFO 1234YF must now be used and has got into a fight with Mercedes Benz that claims that the new gas is more flammable. Some manufacturers such as Peugeot in the 308 and Nissan in the Note, replaced R134a with this new gas, generally called R1234YF. Unfortunately, as well as being flammable, it appears to be more prone to leaking from systems and when it does the high cost of the gas makes a re-gas much more expensive.
