Ford Escort - Importing to the UK from South Africa 16 Jan 2024 (Forum)
When I was in Australia to ship a car over from the UK I had to prove that I had owned it for over a year and had to pay a nice Import tax + check over and rego fee. It was worth it for a decent car that would have cost me around $16,000 AUD that I paid £900 for here. I have looked at similar Escorts here and a complete shed seems to hold a value of around £3000. -
Imported Renault & Warranty Implications 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I can understand why they are saying this in principle, it is obviously a method to try to discourage people from buying the imports in the first place. What I find annoying is that the car is to the same spec as the UK equivalent, yet they are able to make such a restrictive condition just because they feel like it. What do others think on this? -

Double Standards Officer. 18 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Strange, then, that a mere seven pages later an article on the new Mini Cooper S is printed, heralding its 135 mph capability and seven second 0 - 60 times. The article went on to say "the important figures I like to quote are the 50 - 75 mph overtake time" and last time we looked, 75 mph was illegal and surely not important at all. So next time you get pulled by Northamptonshire Police just say you were testing the important overtaking figures they suggested in 999 magazine. -- These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads. -

Stitched up by Audi main dealer? 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I need to get shot of the car quick, so I've taken it to a local independent Audi dealer purely with a view to settling the finance. The first thing they said when they saw the service book was "this is an import". And sure enough, it is Now the price I paid (22k) was the price of a UK car, and Audi never mentioned it was an import. I appreciate I'm at fault, as its in the book, but I'm very naive with cars, and assumed being in a main dealer, the car coming with the 3 year warranty, and of course paying the going rate for a UK car etc etc The warranty on imports is 1 year, so I rang and asked when the warranty ran out and they mentionmed its not unusual for them to sell imported S3's, and that they 'make up the balance' so that the car comes with the full 3 year uk warranty.
