  • Honda Jazz Hybrid - Honda Jazz Hybrid 15 Nov 2012 (Forum)
The reviews on the Hybrid are broadly favourable.  my one reservation is the battery pack which is expected to last the life of the car but I see that Honda will only guarantee the battery pack for five years. Should the battery pack be a concern?   I've had Hondas before and they are pretty bullet proof, it  would be my intention to do what servicing I  can, myself  ( using Honda parts to maintain warranty ).
  • Rover 200 and 400 (1989 - 1996) - 97 1.4 Dead cat, only a year old 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi, My wife's Rover 214Si had a new exhaust, including cat, last year. This year it failed its MOT on emissions. Kwik-Fit are putting a new cat in under warranty - no quibble, much to my surprise. Now, the original cat lasted 10 years, so I'm somewhat surprised the replacement only lasts a year. The car is used infrequently - probably only done 1000 miles since the cat was replaced.
  • Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - (02-06) Damaged key 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Has anyone else had a problem with the ignition key breaking apart ? I have tended to use just one key for the two years that I have had the car from new. The plastic body has split where the metal shaft enters it. My local dealer has contacted Honda UK for a warranty claim and this has been rejected, they reckon I have damaged the key by turning it too hard in the ignition.
  • Diesel - Remapping remappers 29 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Then another artical in A/Express No.944 this week about thier long-term test with a Zafia diesel with 160 bhp or 195 bhp with a push of a button remapped by Griffin's British Touring Car team. Knowing that these engines are the Alfa/Fiat 1.9td 16v 150 BHP, and also used by Saab, but all have different ECU's. Are Vauxhalls the only models that have this remapping and with a push of a button choose your power boost and also not effecting your Warranty.
  • Megane reliability 23 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi backroomers, Since you were all so helpful with my last thread, how about this one... in my quest for a used Megane II, I've read (here on HJ and elsewhere) that the early cars (2002 especially) had all kinds of problems, which have been sorted on later ones. But does that mean that buying an early model now would necessarily be a bad idea?
  • Toyota Avensis air vent engine smell 6 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I've begun to notice that during and just after hard acceleration (e.g. up to 60 in 2nd, full throttle) there's sometimes a faint smell of oil from the air vents. The car's done 36K miles and I'm pretty sure it didn't used to do this. Oil usage is minimal, water usage zero and it's never needed anything topping up between services. I'm not in the habit of thrashing the thing!

  • Mazda 6 Tourer - From company car to car allowance 25 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Due to a career change I’m handing back my current company diesel Mazda 6 tourer in Feb and need a replacement. The new firm don’t offer a company car, only an allowance, in this case £400 per month, (pre tax) with business mileage reimbursed at a rate I think being 12p per mile for the business use. The question is what’s the best way of financing the new car, used?

  • Used model Y good deal or not? 4 Aug 2025 (Forum)
My neighbour has purchased a used model Y. Its a 22 reg, it's done over 100,000 miles and it's ex fleet one owner, full history .It was about £18k, from an independent outlet. I've driven it. Its immaculate inside and out, drives like a brand new car, no rattles, no whines, knocks, nothing.
  • 2015 Nissan Qashqai 1.2 DIG-T - Safety Issue - Rear Disc Brakes 12 Oct 2017 (Forum)
The second annual service has just been completed (06.10.2017) with the mileage now at 13970. The local Nissan dealer has informed us that the vehicle requires new rear brake discs and pads. The dealer has said the vehicle is not safe to use, the brake pads are completely worn away, and the discs heavily scored. We are therefore left with no option but to leave the car at the dealership.
  • Kia venga 2 1.4 manual 6 months on report - 6 months on 19 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Far more comfortable than the Rio 2 that preceded it. Feels good on the road, fast enough for me. Will "push" if using gears and accelerator, but  no longer  my style of driving... reversing sensors useful too! Bags of room, moved a full size fridge freezer in it a few months back, and carried lots of 8 foot timber  using the passenger sear folded back and protecting the seat and dashboard.
  • private buyer long term diesel / lpg choice ? 24 Sep 2009 (Forum)
With dealer discounts, gov incentives and trade in allowance for our 12 year old clio all the following cars are approx the same price on the road at 13500 - 14200 euros. road tax here is based on power output only so all approx 170 euros tax per year apart from dealer lpg coversions TAX FREE. which will be best, safest and last at least 10 years, hopefully more. after warranty runs out will do most basic servicing ( oils, filters, brake pads) at home so chain drive camshaft is one less worry. depreciation is a different beast over here, people keep cars much longer and used car values are much higher.
  • The sensible option 1 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Tasked with finding a good used car for brother in law for up to £7,000 I started looking at my usual default choices, Mazda 3, Honda Civic, Toyota Auris and Ford Focus 1.6 petrol. It never ceases to impress me how many excellent cars you can buy for so little money.
  • Mitsubishi Colt 5-door (2004 - ) - Servicing angst 20 Feb 2008 (Forum)
So went with daughter today to pick up her Colt after its first annual service at the supplying dealer. OK, I'm already cross because Mitsubishi wouldn't allow us to buy their £150 for 3yrs servicing deal, as we bought the car 3mths before they introduced that. Receptionist cheerfully presented a bill for £200. "Errr...how does that relate to the £125+VAT that you (and, separately, your colleague) quoted us when we booked the car in"?
  • Kia Cee'd, 1.4 petrol, manual, 2012 - What's the target price? 7 Mar 2013 (Ask HJ)

  • Toyota Yaris - Been done in local garage car purchase 9 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Hi there, I recently purchased a used Yaris which looked good on paper. It’s been purchased from a local garage with assurances that this is such a good car. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks on, someone looked at the car for me and noticed the back bumper has been resprayed and its clips are visible, as the whole bumper has not been fitted on properly.
