Golf mk3 cuts out after going through puddles 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
It'll stand forever under torrential rain, and still start first time every time, but you drive over any kind of deepish puddle, and within seconds, it'll just fade away. Leave it half an hour, and it's dried out enough to start again. It's not the leads (replaced) or dist. cap as far as I (or the garage) can tell. I thought perhaps a short in the fuel pump (happened to my Dad's Audi once), but the pump is mounted on top of the tank, and I can't see how it could get wet. -
This is getting serious: £28K serious 13 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Company changing to salary increase, milage allowance and 'pick your own'.She wishes to out do the boss and take a 'you only pass here once' attitude. My limited (and she knows it) knowledge leads me only to say 'go for the top of the range VW Golf' and pocket the difference. No chance. A company contact through leasing firm they use has led to high spec SLK 230 2 seater one year old priced as above. -
How can anyone defend Mr Hart? 19 Dec 2001 (Forum)
2) Despite the other contributing circumstances such as the inadequate length of crash barrier the bottom line is if he had got some sleep the night before ten people would still be alive today. 3) Even with all the evidence leading to one conclusion he continued to protest his innocence rather than face up to what he had done, something the judge may well take into account when considering his sentence. I have no sympathy for this man, and I think he should be given a sentence to deter anyone else taking the same risk he did in future. -
Night Motorway Driving 18 Nov 2001 (Forum)
By leaving a whole lane on either side, their margins for any small error are increased. This mentality really disturbs me and I feel that lower concentration levels lead to a lower standard of driving and the possibility of falling asleep. But this may well not be the case. If anyone has any views on the matter, especially if someone is brave enough to admit to sitting in the middle lane, I would be genuinely interested to read them. -

Fiesta 1.25 Zetec oil pressure.... 17 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I am not averse to taking out a fuse eg, but do I run into further problems with petrol contamination of catalyst? or loss of ECU settings which can be even less desirable? The plug leads are not immediately accessible in the dark! PS For info - Alarm on same car. Having had intermittent alarm problems I finally traced problem to iffy contact on bonnet switch when closed. The fault could be replicated off car by fully closing (making contact) and wobbling plunger which then showed as only very occasional high resistance. -
Ford Fiesta 1999 V-reg 1.25 Zetec-SE - Running & idling problems, DTC codes - help please 19 Jun 2010 (Forum)
The sparkplugs and leads were replaced 8 months ago (NGK plugs, Magnecor leads), I checked the plugs the other day and they were all fine (golden brown). The coil is the original, seems to be OK visually, can't see any arcing, I took it off to get at the coolant temp sensor and looked underneath at the sealant and it looks fine. -
Peugeot 3008 - High pitched intermittent rotational sound - HELP! 7 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Backing plate was moved a touch by garage - no solution The noise is only apparent when going slow (10-20 mph) - and specifically when doing a very slight right turn of wheel - or turning corners going right when slow or around a round about It's also more apparent when going downhill- recently went through tyne tunnel - downhill and it sounded really bad (echo I guess!) Leads me to think possibly something suspension related??? But I'm no mechanic.. Garage said there is very minor play on the right front drop link - but this wouldn't cause the noise? I'm reluctant to take it back there as they probs think I'm one of those problem customers haha - but the noise needs sorting Any help much appreciated - to take it into another garage and tell them to look at specific things so I sound like I know what I'm talking about -
Golf Mark 7.5 / 2020 - Owned used car 1week, sidewall puncture cheap tyre 8 Aug 2024 (Forum)
Also we do wonder whether given there was no apparent reason for this puncture, no nail etc, it could have been there at purchase but just got a bit worse leading to the pressure sensor triggering. The car comes with 2 years used approved warranty which as usual doesn't cover tyres, as classed as wear/tear .... but could we have any come back given we're within the initial 14 days within which no quibble exchange is possible? -
Renault Laguna - Renault Laguna 1.9 dci starting issues. 15 May 2023 (Forum)
I have had a fiddle with the relays in the car ( what a pig to get to ) and the relays under the bonnet. I added another battery to it with jump leads and it started a couple of times. I have now put all the covers back and the relays back hoping it was just a loose connection etc, but now it refuses to start etc. Does anyone have any ideas? -

2005 Dacia Logan - Problems after replacing brake discs 20 May 2021 (Forum)
Changed all 4 wheels (I had the winter tires on so I put the summer ones that had different rims, exactly the same size). Problem still happens. Thing is, the road leading to the mechanic is very straight, it's difficult for me to show him exactly what is happening, they said as long as the car is in neutral and you turn the wheel and the brake pads don't touch the rotors everything is great. -
Citroen C4 Picasso - ELF on 65 1.6 Bluehdi continual error help 31 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Drove it for 5 miles and same fault happened. Now getting pretty stressed about where this could lead and money getting tight. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else to check which could clear this issue. Car is out of warranty. Was never offered an extension as apparently I could have taken one out. -
Fuel made from air! 18 Jun 2018 (Forum)
The main stumbling block with this method seems to be industrialising the process as currently only 'micro-litres'(?) are being produced. So the good old internal combustian engine may still lead a long and happy life and the National grid may be able to breathe a sigh of relief!. -
Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2007) - 04 2.0D Engine cuts out..... 20 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I got him to crank the engine while I forced fuel on to the main injection pump and it still would not start. That makes me suspect that the main fuel pump could be faulty, or some other sensor which leads to the ECU switching the pump off. Then it started again. I checked the connections on the main fuel pump and on the fuel pressure sensor. Needless to say it broke down again after another 3 miles. -
Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2003 1.4 Cutting out low idle revs 25 Mar 2017 (Forum)
At 90K the original coil pack was on its way out and the engine started misfiring badly, mostly on cylinder 4. The engine light was flashing. I replaced the coil pack, plugs and leads straight away. This fully restored the car to perfect running condition and the engine light has now gone off itself. However another problem more than likely related occurred around the same time that has not gone away? -
Peugeot 306 1.6 Automatic Yr 2000 - Problems starting 20 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I was in a hurry so I asked my neighbour to give me a jump start, exactly the same WAHH WU as before, after half an hour of trying to jump start the car using another car and another set of jump leads exactly the same. The battery is 6 months old but still I have checked it and am getting good readings from it. People telling me it is the starter motor or altenator. As the car does turn the engine over a fraction I do not believe it is the starter motor nor the altenator. -
Mobiles 15 Mar 2016 (Forum)
It's said that the bank's computer uses software to recognise faces even though the owner has subsequently grown a beard. I can imagine that will go down like a lead balloon with the lady BRs. Smartphones have a GPS feature whereby the network can trace your whereabouts. There is an 'app' that the bank uses to trace your mobile to ensure that and the credit card are together when you make a payment with the card. -
ford focus estate tdci - plug in tuning boxes 8 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The fact this device is supposed to boost BHP from 115 to @135 isn't as important to me as the fact that this box should lead to a better running more economical car. Albeit, more "go", i would view as a bonus. Im aware of the insurance impilcations, im honest, so will inform them should i go ahead and purchase one. The device which caught my eye is a german ML electronics unit advertised on the net for around £60 inc postage, it looks a simple affair to install (which i wont be doing myself), just two wires to clip into the common rail pipe. -
Nissan Almera - Almera Gearbox 18 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The Nissan gear box oil needs changing as the viscosity is worn down over miles of driving and will eventually wear out the gearbox bearings. This leads to failure of the gearbox. If the oil is changed every 50 - 70k the manuakl gear box will be smooth with syncro gear changing and will last 200 k or more.
