  • martini publicity car by viotti turin 18 Jul 2002 (Forum)
The car was ordered in 1935-1937?? By Count Rossi (of Martini Italy) from Carrosseria Viotti in Turin. When the importer of Isotta Frashini in the USA went bankrupt, the remaining chassis were send back to Italy. Count Rossi bought two of them (typo 8B) and had them send to Viotti in Turin who was asked to produce a convertible for the counts own use and a coupe to be used as a publicity car for Martini.
  • Range Rover 1989 3.6L EFI light 11 May 2002 (Forum)
Now this is a bit of rather expensive kit to just bang in... and as this model of computer was only used (as far as the US market is concerned) in 1989 when they imported only 1500 or so units as they began their reentry to the US after a 20 year absence) it is not found at the breakers either... (I am told it was also used by one of the US spec Jaguars that year as well but no luck yet finding out which one...
  • VW Golf - doors freezing shut 27 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I have a Mk. IV VW Golf Estate, bought new in April 2000. A personal import from Denmark, hence massive savings. That's the good news. The bad news is that when my wife tried to open the driver's door on a frosty afternoon recently - and when I say "frosty", I should point out that we live in Cornwall, not Siberia - the door was frozen to the soft plastic/rubber roof gutter moulding: when she finally managed to get the door open, it ripped two great chunks out of the gutter moulding in the process.
  • New year, new car 9 Dec 2021 (Forum)
Requirements are: Near enough same size as the Pulsar with near enough the same kit Good performance in the real world (guess I mean the ability to overtake – the Pulsar and Fabia have really spoilt us in this respect) 0-60 and top speed are both meaningless IMHO, who does that day in day out. MPG is important but its going to be difficult to do less than the Pulsars 33 approx. Auto (wifes arthritis) Electric Handbrake (wifes arthritis) Android Auto (no need for expensive built in satnavs) Avoid if at all possible: Diamond cut wheels Budget £25,000 (might be more if the Pulsar sells well) The engine is the real question.
  • Van leasing vs buying something else 2nd hand 3 Dec 2021 (Forum)
I've had some issues with my van recently, which ultimately with this latest problem, means I will have to write off three and a half days from my monthly window cleaning round due to the Caddy being in the garage waiting for parts. Like all who use a van for work, reliability is very important, I need my van to work in order for me to be able to work. Not doing so means letting down customers and in all honesty, I am starting to lose confidence with the Caddy now. Being stuck at home I have had plenty of time to consider options.
  • Help me choose a used car please… 11 Aug 2021 (Forum)
So… do I spend the money on the best car I can find and plan for it to last me 10+ years, or go for something cheaper and save my cash? When buying a 2nd hand car is the age of a car more important or the mileage? Would a 2013 Golf be a better option than a 2016 Astra?!? Examples of cars I have found locally… 1. 2009 1.8L Vauxhall Astra, 47k miles = £3k 2. 2014 1.6L Vauxhall Astra, 55k miles = £6k 3. 2013 1.4L VW Golf, 50k miles = £8k 4. 2016 1.4L Vauxhall Astra, 38k miles = £9k 5. 2015 1.6L Ford Focus, 10k miles = £10k 6. 2014 1.4L VW Golf, 30k miles = £11k Any advice gratefully received.

I looked at the New Kuga, but that does not really do it for me. I know it's not overly important but I think the previous version looked a lot better. Please can I have other members/owners opinions  Thank you in Advance
  • 100 years of Mazda 7 Feb 2021 (Forum)
A few things jumped out, first of these were the fact that from 1987 through into the 90's, Mazda were the official importers of Citroen cars into Japan, starting with the BX. They also, for a short time (no dates given), sold Lancia cars. Both of these were done through Mazda's own portfolio of 'brands', Citroen being sold through Eunos dealers, and Lancia by Autozam.
  • Where’s the joy? 10 Jan 2021 (Forum)
It no longer has family duties beyond transporting junior to school on my way to work and my commute lasts a total of 5 minutes (yes I am a lazy sod) so it has to be petrol and economy isn’t important. I do need it to be reliable so the irrational dream of an early Alfa 156 Twin Spark or GTV is out of the window. I want something different. It doesn’t need to be an out and out fun car but it does need to be something I want to drive just for the pleasure of it, something I want to stand in the garage and admire nightly with a tinnie or two.
  • Toyota RAV4 - New Car - Swirl Marks 8 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Give notice to the dealer that you are exercising your sort-term right to reject the car under CRA 2015. 7. (I know I always bang on about this, but it's important!). If you bought the car on HP/PCP the finance company not the dealer is liable. Give the finance company notice that you are rejecting the car and give them 7 days to say what they're going to do about it.
  • Audi A5 S Line - about to buy a 2013 Audi A5 S Line 2 litre Diesel 31 Dec 2018 (Forum)
very fast yes, but horrid stiff non comfy ride and road noise i found very high... just didn't do it for me:thumbsdown:   boring interior i thought so,  i`m about to go and test drive an Audi A5 S Line with 2 litre Diesel 177bhp engine,  anything i`m to look out for? would you say its quiet and has low road noise? a quiet refined drive on the road is very important to me, surely gotta be better than the BMW? the car i`m looking at is a 2013 registered car with 18000 miles on the clock, full AUDI history, it will be my first ever try in an AUDI :smile2: it has optional extras on it, as listed below, but can any of you tell me if it has Xenon lights?
  • Ford Maverick - Which to buy? CRV mk1 or Maverick mk2 15 May 2012 (Forum)
There are more Hondas to choose from, as the Maverick was only on sale for a couple of years and wasn't popular, but the Maverick is shorter (which is important to me as I have to park on the street and my current 190E is long enough!) I also think the 2.0 Zetec is a pretty good engine for a Ford. Hondas have an excellent reputation for reliability, but most in my price bracket don't have full service history, and none have Honda history, which I was led to believe is key - as they need to be maintained using OEM fluids, etc.
  • Help Required with New Car Options Please 23 Nov 2011 (Forum)
My requirements are: automatic, 5-door, 5-seater, reliable, economical, practical (i.e. good seat manoeuvrability) not French or Italian (sorry but reliability is important) with air-con, electric retractable mirrors, plenty of leg room in rear with height sufficient for 6 footer son/husband, auto lighting and wipers, bluetooth for handsfree phone use, USB socket for interactive i-pod listening, preferably sat-nav, ABS and all safety acronyms, I would love the keyless entry and start I have with the mini but this seems in short supply (Note has it).

  • P4 SU carburettor flooding puzzle 4 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Presumably it will be of different density to the original brass version; will it therefore displace more or less fuel in the chamber thus altering the level or is it simply a matter of the volume of the float setting the level in the chamber, this presuming new and old are of similar dimensions. Aunties liquid intake is so great in any case that it is fairly important to get the mixture just right. Thanks in advance for any views on this. ---------------------------------------------- One mans junk is another mans treasure
  • Why don't people just own up when in the wrong? 14 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have taken the attitude, as always, that it is, when all said and done, a bit of bent metal and the important thing was that no-one was hurt. Now comes the rant, despite all the above, damage evidence, witness willing to give statement to court, insurance co. onside, road markings, et al, I have now been informed that the other party is now refusing to accept ANY liability for the accident whatsoever and has told her company she is not willing to settle if she has to take any part of the blame; all this based purely on the argument that she was 'flashed out' so it can't possibly be her fault!
  • Hyundai i20 (2009) - A worthwhile deal? 10 Nov 2009 (Forum)
What we do need is a cheap, economical, safe runabout which can be used for the occasional longer, motorway trip and even the odd run down to the south of France. It is important to be able to get my elderly and somewhat arthritic MiL in and out of the passenger seat, and a dog in a similar state in and out of hatchback. Your feedback would be very welcome, thank you.
  • Chrysler PT Cruiser: what it's like 16 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Not at all bad actually. I quite like the looks, but the important thing from the user's point of view is the proportions. The tall hunched stance gives the interior a spacious feel, not entirely imaginary as there is decent rear footroom. Leather and suede upholstery and trim, heated seats with electric height adjustment on the driver's side, shiny chrome-finish wheels and many bells and whistles came for the original 18k price (phew!).
  • No satnav, forgot map? Ring Dad! 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
He is philosophical about being bullied on the A1 by some truck drivers and some BMW drivers who are too important to obey the 40mph limit under the Scotch Corner flyover; he deploys the Citroen AX's perky 50 bhp to keep up with the traffic yet he is not so lead-footed as to crucify the expected MPG. He shows IMO maturity, and appropriate assertiveness and restraint in his driving.
  • What to buy? 16 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I am looking to keep it for 2-3 years, so something that holds its value would be nice, but again, the enjoyment is more important. My shortlist at the moment, after a fair amount of test driving. At the moment, it looks like this: 1.8 Ford Focus. Comfortable, and a nice drive. My feelings towards it are pretty.... Well, non existant.
