Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 98 3.0 One cooling fan not working 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hello y'all It seems my n/s cooling fan is not working. Neither fan appears to come on when I would expect them on at slow speed, only the o/s fan comes on full speed when temp gets over 90ish. From reading other threads it seems major possibilities are either the one fan is dead (open circuit), or there may be a relay problem (though I can't ascertain for sure whether this would cause these symptoms). -

Doors to manual 20 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I noticed the passenger door didn`t unlock itself a few days ago. It`s been OK since but it looks like a new central locking unit will be needed that side. A chance to start to upgrade it to a more satisfactory type and I think I will look into stripping off a mechanical assembly from a breakers car and convert that side to manual. -
Soot in the oil - via the EGR valve your views? 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I`ve normally done 3,000 oil changes (filthy old IDI engine) which are half service interval and the cams and cambox were clean (black oil accepted) no sludge or cam surface wear, at 56,000 miles It`s occurred to me that with the EGR system no longer loading the oil with soot from the exhaust - that I might let the engine run to 5,000 miles or so on the oil. If there`s interest in this thread I will write later about the EGR blanking. -
SEAT Ibiza III (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.9 Best Tyre Replacements 31 May 2009 (Forum)
I have two questions and would welcome any advice anyone may have on the subject. Firstly, what are the quietest tyres in this size (ie. 205/45/16's) ? Secondly, what are anyones thoughts on changing to 205/50/16's on the same wheel rims. I am assuming that there would not be a fitting problem, as the overall diameter is only 20.5 mm greater and rolling circumference only 3.47% greater . -
Average speed cameras and the teflon chancer 24 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Those 90/100mph (and more) outer lane teflon chancers . What else can you call them? I know if I go over the limit I get a ticket. It`s as though some form of alternative reality is operating as you see these cars cruising past at a good 100mph , seemingly with impunity. Let`s hear it for average speed cameras then - fair dispensation of points to all, with lady luck removed to where she belongs - the national lottery. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 How unround should tyres be for rejection 14 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Just had 4 new cheapie Nexem tyres - had to take back for rebalancing but still a very slight judder at motorway speeds. Took front wheels off to have a look at weights...60g on O/S and a massive 80g on N/S - a 25g weight banged onto edge of rim and 55g of flat weights stuck on at same point of circumference. It's not the [alloy] wheel as there was no judder before and only small weights needed for perfect smoothness. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.6LX Power Steering Fluid 28 Nov 2008 (Forum)

I wondered lonely as a cloud, past ugly motors.... 21 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I wondered lonely as a cloud by ugly motors large and loud All gas guzzlers plain to see waiting for a monster fee Wheels to grace a road going tank tyres to bust a modest bank in your face with lack of grace dominator`s of rat and race puff and pomp, supercilious glance a personal lack below perchance? Six, nay, eight, cylinders roar as Egbert peers, over the door Air-con on, to help survive bacteria out, to grow and thrive A road hump shunts and shakes the liver and Egberts knees are all aquiver The Wobble Master lurches on But, `t schools runs over and the con Cos, small is good and big is bad you know it is, it`s not a fad So snort and pomp and gloat at leisure till, Gordon hits you with his measure. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Which to choose 20 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Currently have a Skoda Octavia Ambiente 1.9 TDi very happy with the car but would like to change from the Skoda Octavia. I have got three choices in mind, Mazda 6 S Diesel, Seat Altea XL XL MPV Diesel or new Skoda Superd S or another Octavia but the elegance model. Really fancy the Mazda as its a bit left field but would appreciate comments on all three cars. I do about 30,000 miles a year predominantly on A and B roads with not much motorway miles I can have all the usual Astra Golf Focus stuff as well but I have had these in the past so hence my rather odd-ball choices. -

New Tyres, advice please. 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I have decided that It would be best to just get 4 new tyres as the fronts are budget tyres and its a front wheel drive. Safety first and all that. I do not want Pirelli P6000's because of road noise. I was looking at some Khumo 769's which I can purchase for £45 each. With a budget of £50 per tyre (give or take a few pounds) What Mid-range tyres would you recommend? - Quiet good all round tyres. -
Help! about to view used car - best HPI type check 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I'm concerned that she may have bought the car on HP from the dealer and she could be leaving with o/s amounts due. I've no reason to think this - but I need to be sure with an HPI type check. What are the best one's? , are any cheaper than HPI? Do they all guarantee to pick up all o/s finance? The amounts are relatively small, the car is advertised for £995 (1.0 GX Micra / 64K P reg) so i'm guessing she paid the thick end of £2K last Nov, possibly in cash, but then again.... -
DIY servicing, power screwdrivers, tendon issues 15 Jun 2008 (Forum)
What`s best to buy? `Lectric screwdriver or bigger?. It occurred to me that if the power tool is heavy, it may be counter productive.... Its just repetitive forearm radial movements that are an issue, not whole arm leverage on big high torque nuts. -
Mercedes Benz - Decided to hang on to old car 7 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I had decided to change my old 'C' class Mercedes that has given great service for 4 years for a used 'E' class diesel but with the current promise of road tax hikes and fuel prices going through the roof I have changed my mind. My C class is reg in 2000 so keeping it will deny Gordon a few hundred £ s and I am no longer sure that diesel is making much of a saving. It,s 126p a litre against petrol at 115p round here so somewhere near 50p a gallon. Got the old girl serviced and through the mot with no bother and hope now to take the present 135,000 miles showing on the odometer to 200,000.
