servicing by numbers-which is best? 3 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I bought the car to come out of the company car scheme and reclaim my mileage at the HMRC allowed rates, so it was important to get it right about service costs and balance the effect upon the car. The dealer was very good and recommended that with my mileage and usage the extended services made sense. I had to use very expensive long life oil in the engine but apart from that servicing costs were the same. -
Hyundai i20 1.2 litre Comfort 5 dr - Gross Negligence - Annual Service and MOT 25 May 2017 (Forum)
On arrival the servicing documentation seemed rather lacking - with 43,000 miles on the clock, I was expecting a detailed report on the state of wear on my brake pads and discs all round - all unchanged from new, but apparently the technician had made no report on these important items. I was told not to worry as the car had passed its MOT and received the pass certificate plus the exhaust emissions and brake test readouts. With this being a full annual service just before the 5 year warranty expired, I would have expected a detailed report on the whole braking system as I can only inspect the brake pad wear on the outer pads by viewing through the alloy wheel spokes whereas, surely the annual service would include removal of all the road wheels to enable a proper inspection and report to be made? -
Toyota Corolla (1997 to 2002) - 1997 1332cc 4E-FE corolla 20 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Bit of glue does the trick. On the whole, very impressed. It's dull as ditchwater to drive, mind, but that's not important to me. Hopefully I can prevent it rusting and get many years out of it. TR -
BMW X3 - Family Car 2 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Therefore, we would like some help finding something new. The most important things we would like to change about our current car are: - boot (we need slightly bigger, and ability to transport two small dogs) - more cabin space - higher driving position - more off-road ability and snow driving capability - better fuel efficiency In terms of boot, we don't need massive, just enough space for shopping/buggy and occasionally dog transportation. -
Pulled over by police, will i get a court summon? 26 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Also the police drove past my house slowly twice yesterday as if they were checking something out. That might be a coincidence but I thought it may be important. Please let me know what you think? -
Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - when's the best time to buy? 2 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Although we haven't driven one, I think the 1.0 Yaris would be underpowered. I want the T3 or TR spec, as they have loads of airbags, and I think this is important given that my wife will be driving the kids around. For maximum peace of mind, we want to buy from a Toyota dealer, but, naturally, they are expensive. We're looking at £8k for a 2008 model with 8k miles on. -
M'way middle lane hogs - reply 20 May 2008 (Forum)
It would be unwise to have such a sign, as it would lead to 'driver information overload'. 3. Such signs could be dangerous, as they might distract drivers from more important and safety critical signs. 4. They do sometimes use VMS signs (are those those texty gantry things?), but don't like to bang on too much as people stop reading them. 5. They have produced a DVD, which can be found at such and such address, which the AA and RAC thought was rather good. 6. -
BMW - BMW clamping down on cheap online sellers 15 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The BMW spokeswoman added that all the manufacturer's dealerships were selective, and sellers could only be authorised by BMW directly. A named end user BMW UK sales director Tim Abbott stressed the importance of preventing unauthorised sales. ?It's infringing the dealer's contractual obligations,? he said. ?There must always be a named end user.? The company has requested dealers to issue written confirmations that they are aware of this agreement. -
Hondadealers,High Expectations? 11 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I was a bit concerned about getting pulled by the BiB so called the dealer. I also mentioned about the car not having any AA cover in place ;quite important as I travel 70 miles to work at night on the motorway. The dealer said they would give me a call back. I was asked to return the car and they would change it for me plus reimburse me for the £37 of petrol that I had put in the Accord. -
New Almera for under £6k - no brainer? 12 Nov 2005 (Forum)
, Elec windows, 3 year G/Tee, a Euro NCAP rating of 4 stars (against I seem to remember 2 for the 'old' style Fiesta - ask 'Renault Family' if Stars are important......), plus a few other bits and bobs (CD player for example)..... This seems hard to resist. So £5,949 - £2,300 private sale on the Ford = £3,649 to find. Recently sold house and moving to East Sussex (wife to do School run with 5 yr old daughter every day ((no choice - sorry)). -
Police block M-way to pick up toy 16 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Her father Simon, who called out Essex Police, said: "One of the officers had children and probably knew the importance of these things." Police said their action was a "minor inconvenience" to avoid Amy's distress. The police are obviously very busy ... but I think it's great. It shows their social input and it's something we should be proud of Simon Osborn He said the family travelled to the next junction and then turned back to look for the toy. -
Sept 2001 Scoob Impreza 2000 Turbo 29 Mar 2005 (Forum)
think it will cost me in the long run - noticed travel brochures in the house!!! I sold my old impreza (1995 - Jap Import) some years ago in a moment of regrettable haste, and have longed to have her back ever since. I think I have found one which meets my criteria. No mods, UK Car, Low Mileage, FSH & careful owners. -
Locking wheel nuts 24 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I know these guys have to undergo years of training before they are allowed to touch one of the most important parts of the car but still, the one last week must have special micrometer finger tips, his method of telling whether tyres were legal or not was to stick his figers in the tread, ahh, yes that one needs changing this one has got another 500 miles left. -
Help needed 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I know i must be mad and i dont know what came over me but earlier this year i bought a new (although it was imported and not that new afterall) alfa gtv from [company name] . I am the first registered owner and finding out any history via [company name] is a non starter. Earlier this week the car ground to a halt and smoke started to emit from behind the dash board. The electrics went completely and so i guess it was a small electrical fire. The RAC couldnt fix it and were bemused as to why a new car should have an electrical fire. They even said it could be that serious that the car may be written off! -
Inadequate road signs 5 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I question someones priorities. The number of A&E hospitals are being reduced so directions to them are even more important. We are seeing more signs indicating exiting a location. e.g. a grey 20 MPH sign crossed through with grey lines. I like the French signs indicating you have just left a town / village by having the name in grey. -
Buying new cars is a bit like smoking 25 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Buying new cars is a bit like smoking, I would not do it myself, but I am gald that others do as both keep my cost of living down, leaving me more cash for holidays, the children, bikes, houses and no need to work overtime to pay the HP on the car or to buy the fags. Mind you if it was not for people like John Ford - Imported Golf V5s, I could not afford to run my two cars. My cars when new would have cost over £50,000 , I paid less then £6k for both. Thay are each fully gavalanised, quite low milage, and I see ones like them advertised with 250,000 miles on the clock. -
Boot length need, a find me car thread 15 Nov 2024 (Forum)
And driver seat must be able to raise to 70cm from ground. Having checked the usual suspects and trawled a few car lots, I keep ending up back at import vans like a Stepwagon / Elysion / Vellfire / Alphard / Estima which mechanically share many parts with UK models but its the trim / bodywork / glass that can be tricky from what the forums say. ie: a windscreen issue can effectively write off an otherwise good van. -
DFSK/DFM 17 Apr 2023 (Forum)
On a different note, i have also considered the current style Piaggio Porter, which although not 'officially available' in this country, can nevertheless be had as a left hand drive import. Of interest to me is that there are 2 payload options with the van, the higher of these, 750kg, would suit me fine. And whilst it also is not something you would ever choose to have an accident in, current models do at have ABS. -
Peugeot 106 1.1 1997 - Do i need this bit for an mot pass 1 Mar 2017 (Forum)

If I do, would I have to weld both side of that red piece.. I am only trying a botchit, to get it past the MOT .. .not to win welder of the year ;) ...nor for it be the MOT man's greatest piece of art work :) I am going to put covering over it (roof sealant from poundland, which should cover most of my sins) ps ignore that big hole to the left...I've got that covered :) Cheers Liam -
