Peugeot 308 - How do I stand? 5 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Good Mornig all I bought a NON Runner 308, I Checked the Usual & replaced the Usual after a full service, when the car was bought the previous owner has had the same problem, he was told it was the Pump Solinoid, I replaced with new, new Peugeot Filter etc, Filled up the filter before replacing, battery full of charge, car started & ran for about 20 mins the pettered out,the car will now, not start I was told there was no pressure to the Injector line, I towed the car to a local Diesel Doctor, after a week due to people off for hols I ran him yesterday to be told that there was a Fault within the wiring loom that has caused a NON Sigal getting to the ECU to reduce the fuel lines pressure????????? -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 5 Series - Which engine and spec 1 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Will be looking at paying ~£3-4k, so would be looking at something like a 00/01 reg. I do around 12k miles/year, so excellent fuel efficiency isn't a major issue, nor is blistering performance. I currently get around 34mpg from my current car. I am tending towards the petrol models, but is there any overriding reason why I should get a diesel, or are petrol models more reliable/cheaper to run (fuel apart)? -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - High mileage honda accord 22 May 2008 (Forum)
More specifically , I have found one petrol engine one with 2 previous owner and 82,000 mileage for 5,300 pounds but with official combined fuel consumption of 35mpg while I found another accord diesel based with 52,000 mileage for 7,300pounds with combined fuel consumption of 54mpg. Which one should I choose? -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2004 2.0 Petrol Review 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Having purchased a 2004 2.0 Petrol C5 VTR 2 months here are my comments. Fuel economy commute now around 31/32 Fuel economy long journeys 35-36 Even hit 36.5 on long journey to Wales this weekend and this was with some mixed driving too. 2000 Miles of motorring so far has been faultless. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 98 1800 Endura Failure to start 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Is there any way to check this? As the lift pump is incorporated in the injection unit I thought of removing the fuel inlet pipe at filter outlet, putting it into a bottle of diesel and cranking it to see if it will draw it up, but if the solenoid IS at fault, would this prevent the lift pump from operating, thus getting me no further forward? -
Mercedes W124 advice welcome 18 May 2005 (Forum)
A great car and so after very much thought and careful looking it was replaced last weekend with a 1995 E class diesel, one of the last of the hewn from granite models, as I understand it. It has had one owner, 78k warranted miles, auto/air con/leather and in all round good clean and sound condition. Just a hint of a fuel leak form the top of the fuel filter, for which it is going in to my local, trusted garage at the end of the week. -
Car for huge mileage? 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I am sceptical that my 9 year old Rover 200 (excellent car though it has been) will be up to the job and, besides, the petrol costs would be astronomical. I am now thinking about getting a diesel car. I am not all that bothered about prestige etc. and I think that fuel economy will be my primary concern. My current thoughts are a Citroen C2 1.4 HDI, which has massive fuel economy, but I'm not so keen - a bit of a kids car perhaps? -
Smokey Smokey Smokey '95 Audi A4 TDi 29 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Sometimes seems to clear, but gets worse particurly when going up hill when at times the car seems to go down on power for a second or two. The car starts ok, has new injectors fitted (yes tried that first), and new fuel oil and air filters. The car has FSH and the engine is smooth enough. My source of diesel is OK. My mechanic says it MIGHT be the fuel pump, but at £600 to replace I would not want to go down this road until sure. -
Mondeo - engine cuts out after starting 24 May 2006 (Forum)
Having not got the car off the forecourt I told the dealer about the problem... he got in the car and experienced the same problem. We talked about what the problem was... we all suspected a fuel problem and even smelt the filler cap for the smell of diesel (suspecting someone had put diesel in it by mistake), but couldn?t smell anything other than petrol. Now at this point I got my cheque back and handed back the key. -
Volvo V60 - Mad to buy a used diesel? 30 Jul 2020 (Forum)
My commute is short (about 15 miles each way) but is 90% motorway and I don't tend to do lots of short trips so I don't see DPF problems being a major worry. What I'm not sure on are: Increased servicing costs - do diesels actually cost more to service as a rule, or do they just have more to go wrong in terms of DPF, EGR valves etc? Adblue - never having owned a diesel I have no idea if the cost of this would negate some of the fuel saving. -
Audi A3 Sportback - Low diesel MPG - is it me or the car? 11 Apr 2011 (Forum)
So without majorly changing my driving style, is it unreasonable to expect the MPG to be better on the Audi? Or do I have to 'relearn' to drive a diesel? I'm worried I've gone backwards in terms of fuel economy... I've read that on the internet that the wobbling at idle when its warm might be the injectors. Is there anything else I should look out for? -
Peugeot 106 - 1997 Peugeot 106 1.5 Diesel Suspected Air Leak 29 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, I'm after some advice on the poor starting on my Pug 106 1.5 Diesel. The car has 163,000 miles on it (nicely run in!!) and it has recently developed a cold start issue. When it has been stood overnight it will turn over firing on 1 cylinder and one by one the other 3 will follow suit. -
Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 02 1.4 diesel cutting out 23 Dec 2009 (Forum)
By the time I got home it seemed to be pulling absolutely normally, so the only thing i can think of is waxing fuel. This seems unlikely though, as the other car (07 Honda CRV) parked next to it, filled from same pump, set off no problem. Any suggestions as to where to look? Left it parked in the garage overnight, so we'll see whether it gets me to work in the morning. -
motoring 50s-60s style , at low cost (motorcycle) 27 Aug 2009 (Forum)
walked to petrol stn with an empty ep90 container , chap filling with diesel , asked him to put me 50p in my container, over the last week or so I have warmed the engine up , then removed the plug , and given it a "glug" of diesel down the bore , morning after , placed a rag over the top and kicked it , a lot of sh 1 t , came out of the exaust , this was continued for about 5 nights , on morning 3 and morning 6 , i drained the sump , that should hold 30ml oil , quite a lot of crap came out , DIY decoke on the piston head , but more so on the rings , 50p well spent the bike now ticks over better and smoother , but it was fun getting rid of all that unburnt diesel! -
Toyota Corolla Verso (2004 - 2009) - Potential purchase 14 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I was wondering whether it might be best to sit tight for 2.0 05/55 D4D T3 for a similar mileage/price or a diesel Spirit with+40K on the clock. I guess the fuel/service costs vs economy pretty much cancel themselves out on my annual mileage, 4-5k a year 60% of which is city driving. . I've driven both the Petrol and the Diesel and apart from the obvious Torque differences can't say I noticed a whole lot of difference. -

Espace diesel problems 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hello owners of the espace diesel 2.2dci. I gather that most of you who own one have come across the slight problem of loss of power? Am I right? Of course. Let me guess you have had the following done by your local or nearest renault dealer 1/ Egr valve 2/ Egr valve pipes 3/ Turbo 4/ injectors 5/ Fuel pump 6/ Reprogramming of software. 7/ Anything else that I have missed. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 flashing glow light - MAF Sensor 4 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Brief recent History April 09 replace camsensor Sept 09 Glow light issue -- codes P1211 PO251 which suggests fuel issue - had garage check out everything re fuel issue. They said Fuel filter ok, injectors ok but I stopped short of replacing fuel pump as i was quoted £1200 but no guarantee of success. Sept09 replaced crankshaft sensor helped but not solved the issue Jan 10 Replace MAF and EGR I have now found out that the MAF is triggering the glow light. -
which fuel (petrol) 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I'm sure this topic appears in other threads, but was brought to mind when reading the recent 'which diesel fuel' thread. This is a tale starting 10 years ago, so things may well be different/better now, but it?s absolutely true and with no exaggeration: I had an Uno Turbo which over time developed a misfire. -
MPG Petrol & Diesel Figures/Car Economics 17 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Comparing a 122TSI Golf vs the 140TDI, implies 43 vs 55MPG, so about £300 a year more for petrol over diesel (current prices) . I assume this is increased by current fuel prices. What I am asking is therefore, how noticeable can the difference be? Is it true that a diesel needs a long run to get to those ‘top’ end MPG figure anyway?
