Golf GTD/GTI - Golf GTD/GTI MK6 indecision 9 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Important info: I was originally waiting and saving for a MK7 but I've decided I actually prefer the look of the MK6 and it's almost within the budget right now (budget is 4-5k off of a mk7). -
Confused about medical matters??? 3 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I also argued about the bland figure of 5.6 not being very illuminating as it is the split of LDL and HDL Cholesterol which is important, not the overall total. Again he brushed aside my arguments with a modern medicine knows best attitude. So I started taking a daily dose of Statin(20mg) and Ramopril(5mg). What a disaster. The side effects are awful. -
Animal antibiotic use partly restricted by Food a 27 Nov 2014 (Forum)
“We believe this is an imperative step in preserving the effectiveness of this class of important antimicrobials that takes into account the need to protect the health of both humans and animals,” said Michael R. Taylor, deputy commissioner for foods at the FDA. (Link removed, although it's such an inept way to advertise that I rather doubt that it was meant to be an advert.) -
ford - Courtesy car when vehicle seized? 30 Oct 2012 (Forum)
The car had just passed the MOT and there is no suggestion that there are any defects (it is only 4 years old and has less than 40k miles on it) - it has been explained that it is just procedure that the car is retained until the hospital give the "green light" which, God willing, they will at some point as it will mean the fella is out of the woods health wise. Whilst the main concern remains the young man's wellbeing, I am having to cancel important hospital appointments and to be frank, have no idea how I am going to get into work next week (I have a problem with my back that limits my walking to minimal amounts so getting public transport is not an option). -
Any car - Air conditioning 14 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Would you have a comment please 1477 CAR AIR CONDITIONING - VERY IMPORTANT! My car book says to roll down the windows to let out all the hot air before turning on A/C. WHY ? Car Air Conditioning: No wonder more folks are dying from cancer than ever before. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Petrol cap cover/door broken off - how to replace? 21 Sep 2011 (Forum)
My MOT and service are due within 2 weeks - any advantage in having the petrol cap cover/door replaced at the same time? (4. Less important question: do you think whoever did this wanted the cover/door itself or access to the petrol? Has this happened to any of you?) I would be extremely grateful for answers to any of the above, especially recommendations for where to go for a new cover/door. -
Peugeot 306 - Heater Matrix Replacement 24 Nov 2010 (Forum)
There are no shortcuts except try and not remove the matrix rubber grommit in the bulkhead but disconnect the plastic pipe assembly inside the car under the windscreen and close to the bulkhead. This is very important and re-fitting the grommit is a 2 person job using the old string technique that used to be used 40 years ago when windows were hed in by rubber trim. It's difficult believe me !!! The new matrix (Valeo or Behr or Chinese copy) should unbolt fairly easily. -
Mazda 6 SL 2008+ - Mazda 6 Handbook - Should be amended/revised 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Does it mention how to stop a car when the car acellerates out of control and what to do in that situation? Nope.... I don't get it, if it's so important for Mazda to put a sticker in the engine compartment to warn you of the levels then why is the above not in there? Many of us have had this happen with no DPF warning light, or that is will suddenly come on flashing even though the DPF has been regenerating. -
Toyota - Servicing my 4WD Toyota Hiace camper 27 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Any suggestion son where I might get my camper serviced? I have just imported it from Japan, and had intended to get it serviced by the garage who collected it from the from the docks and did the necessaries to get it registered. However I haven't been thrilled with how they have handled things, and I have now lost confidence in them. -
Nearly killed by a hire car 13 Jul 2009 (Forum)
So everyone remember to check theirs and defiantly check any hirecar! I know on my car i always put new tyres on the back as they are without doubt the most important tyres on a car. They are there to anchor the car and clear water and i always check my tyres. An unbelievable day that could have been much much worse. And i must say, despite the angle of the picture, the tread that did exist was also on the min limit based on the cardboard measure the hire car company used when we got recovered back to the depot. -
Police officer with 'attitude' 4 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I knew this was not the case so with the greatest of politeness I told him that because the car was a Japanese import it was allowed to have a slightly smaller plate dimension (to fit in the square aperture) and also that the font was correct. I know this because I checked the legal side very carefully when I had the plates made a couple of years ago and I have subsequently double checked on the DVLA website. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - TDDi 2002 - Fuel Pump problem ? 7 Nov 2007 (Forum)
They seem a little reluctant to respond and confirm that IF I spent all this money, it would absolutely 100% cure the problem :-) In addition, they have also gone a bit 'fuzzy' over my questioning around whether they have actually read the ECU on the Fuel Pump itself, which I am told is very important! The other information I want to share with the forum, is that they claim that so far, they have spent THREE AND A HALF HOURS diagnosing and test driving the vehicle and the bill so far stands at just under £300 - BEFORE they do any work - is this a rip off or what AND as stated, they don't seem keen to offer me a guarantee that it will fix the problem!! -
Lancia - Ypsilon, driving experience. 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Not sure which engine we had, but it was petrol and not an auto gearbox. I've been struggling trying to find out what the car costs - looks very expensive to import (£12k) but I'm thinking it's substantially cheaper in Italy. It's a shame that the 70s reputation of Lancia damaged the brand to the point that they no longer sell them here. It's a nice car, and I should think, fairly cheap too. -
Fun practical used car for £6-8k 14 May 2007 (Forum)
I need something fairly practical (say Focus sized or bigger) although rear seat comfort is not very important (so a coupe with fold-down seats is fine, just so I can take four people or a longish load occasionally). A Focus seems an obvious choice but a little bit "common", I'd have to choose between a 1.8 petrol, TDCi 115bhp or perhaps an ST170! -
Selling cars privately, don't be sloppy. 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
A good lesson for all private sellers: Sold a Mitsubishi Star Wagon Delicia 2.5 TDi on eBay the other day. It had been in the family since it was imported and cared for like a family member. (Sort of a poor man's camper van). Anyway, I agreed to meet the buyer at a local station as the bloke was comming some distance by train. He arrived, I showed him all over it, he paid £1000 in cash as agreed and signed a document of sale with the mileage recorded. -
VW Customer care ! ! ! 28 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Went back to customer service and explained and they suggested I e-mail "Erwin" - the answer will be intersting when I work out how to e-mail him as the contact details refer you back to your county importer (Probably VW customer service in the UK) It does say something in the book about having technical information readily available to answer queries on the car! -
Global Cool ! 1 Feb 2007 (Forum)
However saying things like *if you buy a Prius or a hybrid car it will save 3 tonnes of carbon* dilutes and detracts from these small though important actions that every one can take. Not everyone is in a position to be selective about the car they drive however more fundamentally this assertion is simply untrue. Firstly small turbo diesel cars like Toyota's own Yaris D4D, a Ford Focus etc contain as much as 50% less embedded carbon (carbon produced in manufacture and disposal) than a Prius and produce a comparably low amount of C02 in use. -
Filling Station Hilarity 12 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Having filled up, go inside, three people in front of me, the gentlemen about to be served was elderly (Honda Jazz, but that's not important right now). The exchange went as follows - Miserable Attendant- "What pump love?" Old Gent - "Sorry my dear?" M.A - "What pump love, what number?" O.G - "Oh, err, errm.. (looks through window).. number twelve" M.A - "There is no twelve" O.G - "Sorry my dear?" -
Choosing a company car!!!!!!!!!!!!! 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Factors they consider include which is better to drive, which engine or level of equipment to get, the colour, the tax for benefit in kind and other things that affect them as an individual. Rarely do they consider the running costs, servicing costs, or depreciation. These are very important factors that people who use their own money always consider. I always love to ask if they would have bought the car with your own money? Also would you have bought it new or secondhand? Rarely is the car what they would have spent their own hard earned money on. -
Class discuss 17 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Now then, Mobil 1 being the Holy Grail of synthetics, as we are led to believe by earnest young men in suits, why would I find today on the quart of 75w/90 gear oil (US import) I bought, a miniscule asterisk next to the "100% synthetic" claim, which when traced down to the bottom of the can, says "except for additive carrier oil" in 3 point type? When is 100% not 100%?
