  • Subaru Forester 2.5 Turbo - Overheating 14 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Eventually after talking to Porsche of all people the fault was chased back to the engine right bank cylinder head bolts. These apparently stretch allowing exhaust gases into the coolant system. This only manifests itself after driving 40 miles plus when the engine is fully warmed up. Thankfully the dealer took the hit on the chin and paid for the repairs. They also replaced the timing belt and tensioners, which seems sensible, but they weren't obliged to do this.
  • Renault Megane 1.6 16v 2000 - Renault Megane cold starting problem 19 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I've been told it could be a coil but more likely to be the Coolant Temperature Sensor. Any ideas as I would like to sort this out before I put it in for the MOT which is due in a week. Thanks.

  • Audi A3 1.6 2001 - Secondhand car bought 4 days ago (Refund) 9 Aug 2011 (Forum)
It's my daughter's car, she paid £1600, the asking price was £1675, bought from a car dealer. There appears to be no oil leaks, however when the coolant is, the bottle seems to have a lot of grainy substance around the inside (Possible additive?) How does she stand as far as getting a refund, because my fear is, if there is something major wrong with it, it could cost ££££'s to put it right. Many thanks.

  • Peugeot 806 HDI - Peugeot 806 heater blowing luke warm air 30 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Is it in the dash somewhere or in the engine bay?? The car runs at normal temp on the dash gauge and the coolant level warning light did blip on temporarily the other week, but I topped the levels up and have not had the warning light back on since. I guess once I have checked the matrix incoming/outgoing temp I need to look at the thermostat?
  • VW Polo 1998 - Overheating Problem 2 Oct 2010 (Forum)
It starts about 10 minutes after setting off and can be controlled by using the heating in the car, but obviously thats not a long term solution. I have checked the water pump (water flows into the coolant tank when I rev the engine - saw that tip on this site also). When I turn the engine off the fans isn't coming on and on checking the radiator pipes the top one was hot and the bottom not. Has anyone any advice please?
  • Mondeo 1.8l 52 plate - Overheating and cant work it out!?! 14 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, Ive got a1.8 mondeo that is overheating no matter what I do (although the needle only goes over the halfway mark at low speeds/at idle) I drove it 16 miles last night and the needle soared skyward only whilst in slow traffic/idling The hoses are all intact, there is no gunk in the system (very recently flushed through several times and has new coolant in system). Ive bought and fitted a new thermostat to no avail. new expansion tank cap too. A mate has suggested fittting a new temp gauge sender unit -which I will try too- but does anyone have any other suggestions?

  • Chrysler Voyager (2001 - 2004) - 03 2.5 heater/engine 25 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Today I got in my car and drove it, after about 15mins the warning indicator came on and my engine temp was on the highest level. I am pretty certain there is water and coolant in the engine. Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem may be. I have assumed the two are connected and thought that maybe the thermostat had gone? I am living on a really tight budget at the moment and ideally would like to sort myself rather than have to take to a garage any help would be very much appreciated thanks Rachel
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 06 1.4 climate >Constantly steaming up! 11 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Now, I have this weekend to look in to it so I'd like as many suggestions as possible :) Things I am checking; - Coolant level (may have dropped due to possible leaking heater matrix) - Blocked vents (leaves etc) - Pollon filter (known issue but passenger footwell is dry) If anyone can add to this list it would really help, additionally if anyone can give me some links to guides on how to fix that would be great!
  • Torquing bolts... 24 Jul 2009 (Forum)
It has not been completed on my scooter for 24000 km, and being a small engine i.e. only 125cc, I would like to do this task without destroying the engine or valves, and take into account that I have never completed this task myself. The biggest job I have attempted is a coolant change, which is a very easy job if you do not get air locks!!! Thanks for your advice Gregory
  • Current highest mileage with NO engine repair 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Only the cambelt tensioner pulley was replaced [by me] - but not even the cambelt. Oh, and the HT leads once. No coolant change, apart from an early water pump failure at around 60,000. Should be a short thread - will most be German, French, Swedish or Japanese?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 What could be causing this noise ? 11 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I feel that I need advice on how to tell if the noise I think I can hear coming from somewhere from the car is due to a coolant pump, alternator or power steering pump problem e.g. worn bearings. What sort of noise would this make ? What about worn big-end or main bearings what sort of noise should I look out for ? The car has a full service history with most of the services being done at Ford dealers.
  • Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.6 (8v) engine cutting out 25 Dec 2008 (Forum)
It can go for days driving really well and then cut out several times in the same journey. The only thing I've noticed is when I change gear, the revs will drop very fast. Also, the coolant has dried up twice in a week and I can hear a water swishing sound coming from behind the dashboard (don't know if this has anything to do with the stalling). The throttle housing has recently been changed but the problem seems worse as now it will cut out at any speed not just a low one.
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 07 2.0 hdi fluid leak driver's side 24 May 2008 (Forum)
It doesn't appear to be oil, but then again it's not quite water. My first thoughts were that it may be coolant (which I'm not too worried about as I can keep a check on it) but, the thought just struck me that it may be Eolys. I also don't think its from A/C as I've had it turned off recently. Also it has no particular smell.Thank you.
  • Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 99 1.2 16v loss of power. 13 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My car is over revving, loosing power , using lots of fuel ( i have replaced the plugs) , very jerky, cuts out & hard to restart ( generally 20-30 mins)this can happen after a long or short run . ie rev at 3000 on its own but when i accelerate the revs drop , no power then cuts out. Renault have told me its the coolant sensor but ive got no probs with the heating or engine temp. Clio 1.2 16v 1999. Regards Michelle x engine and year details edited in for you - we only ask three times so very easily missed
  • BMW 3-Series E30 (1983 - 1991) - Overheating 2.3i Sport 1989 14 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Took car out recently no problem but today went 3/4 up on the temp gauge then sparying water from the radiator tank, lights in board telling me to check coolant. Checked for air block in hoses, flushed the rad too! No blockages! Looked for thermostat and there isnt one there has been taken out.. Could it be the water pump??? Have done 100k, never changed it although it has FSH so double checked and its never been done.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - Dents/kinks in radiator - Causing overheating ? 23 Aug 2007 (Forum)
The radiator on the new car looks like is in bad condition with kinks and dents in it, as there is no coolant loss as far as I can tell could this be what is causing the slight over heating problem? (see previous sensor post for background, I don't want to repeat stuff here) this is a general question btw, the car is being looked on Friday by mechanic.
