  • Hyundai i10 (2008 - ) - Hyundai i110 vs Kia Picanto 30 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Are these ostensibly the same car and if so which is the better car? I am thinking about getting another small run around and want it to be economical, cheap to run and tax efficient. I also want it to have a certain amount of poke that small cars used to have ie feel quick even if they weren't i.e like small FIats of old.
  • Aircon pong 24 Sep 2008 (Forum)
In recent years I have purchased all my cars with aircon. With advice from HJ and others I run the aircon on a regular basis, even in winter. Usually for de-misting. And run it on full heat to supposedly kill off bugs/bacteria etc. To eradicate the pungent aroma that occurs from time to time, I have tried two shop bought aerosols to kill off any bugs and get the ventilation smelling more sweetly.
  • Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - X20XEV two thin tubes left side camshaft cover 4 Sep 2008 (Forum)
X20XEV Engine-2 thin tubes left side camshaft cover. There are 2 thin tubes running along left side of camshaft cover (adjacent to cam belt cover). One tube runs along left side of camshaft cover, all way round over top of engine. Other tube goes to middle of camshaft cover, then goes under the spark plug cover.
  • Jeep Cherokee (1993 - 2001) - 1995 4.0l LPG Problem 8 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I've just bought a '95 Jeep Cherokee 4.0l Ltd. with an lpg conversion and for the first few days, it has run perfectly. However, it has now started cutting out at every junction and roundabout while on gas but no problems when on petrol. I have to admit I may have accidentally allowed the tank to run dry on the way to my first gas fill-up but there's none of the backfiring I was warned about.
  • Car parking at stations 6 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I got a standard reply from NCP, fobbing me off and trying to justify the rise but it seems pretty extortionate to me. The train company doesn't want to know as they no longer run the car park. Who can I complain to? Is there a parking regulator or something similar? Cheers, Antony
  • Desirable to Dinosaur in a decade? 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)

  • Hot climate - any ill-effects? 3 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone know if extreme hot dry weather running has any detrimental effect(s) on an engine? I picked up a new XC90 on Thursday, and whilst out on a weekend drive the external temperature gauge showed 48 degrees C! (I'm in the Middle East).

  • What is regular use? 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Everyone knows that a car runs better if used regularly. But what is regular use? I have always thought this to be a weekly run of 20+ plus which, after warming up for 3 ? 4miles, takes in a variety of roads to exercise the gears and brakes and includes a few miles at the permitted maximum.

  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - '06 2.0 petrol ~ Water trickle on carpet 4 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Just noticed a small trickle of water running along the footwell carpet of my 1 year old C5. Its only a very small amount of water and its coming out of the centre colsole right down low at the very back where the base of the facia meets the floor and the scuttle panel.
  • Renault Espace (1985 - 1997) - 93 V6 cutting out 16 Dec 2007 (Forum)
1993 renault espace v6 ok when cold but then cuts out intermittently when driving, just dies and then pulls again but this is more noticeable when hot and going through the gears the car will just die and if you change from 5th to 4th and then back to 5th again will start to pull again also if you keep it in forth and just touch the throttle it pulls where if you try ro accelerate the power dies. Also noticed if you turn the ignition off/on this sometimes let the car accelerate. The car runs fine for the first ten minutes when it runs on the choke Any help would be grateful Many Thanks

  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 2002 1.2 - vacuum pipe to where? 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
A friend of mine has just bought a renault clio which has a vacuum pipe running from the back of the engine to just behind the drivers side headlight. The problem is this pipe is not connected to anything. There is also a 2 pin multi plug connector at the same location again plugged into nothing.
  • Ford Escort (1990 - 1992) - Early Mk5, 1.3HCS - Battery light stays on. 16 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Hello all, All of a sudden my 'dash battery warning light' stays ON when the ignition is switched OFF. When the ignition is switched ON it goes OUT and stays out when engine is running. Before it only came on when the ignition was switched to start the engine and then went out although recently it started 'flickering' whilst running so I tightened the belt. I am now having to disconnect the alternator overnight so as not to drain the battery, which is a great inconvenience.
  • Suzuki Wagon R+ (2000 - 2007) - 05, Vauxhall engine, has broken pipe in engine bay 10 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Wagon R with the Vaux engine. Large rubber pipe runs across front of engine, then changes to aluminium and turns downward through 90 deg, running down beside the dipstick tube, to couple into the front of the engine block. At least, I think it is the engine block because it is not possible to get direct line of sight to this point.
  • Ford Mondeo 1 (1993 - 1996) - 1.8 petrol. Is my alternator dead? 23 Aug 2007 (Forum)

Still no ignition light, engine running or not. Have'nt driven the car si nce - but now (4 days later) battery is nearly flat. No lights or anything left on.
  • Excellium v Ultimate diesel? 10 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know whether it's the same fuel, or different - in which case, which one is best for mileage, performance, extending engine life, etc... (oh yes - and the environment, how could I forget). I run a 2.5 V6 TDi Passat, and having run on ordinary diesel and BP Ultimate, I can't say I've noticed any difference other than in my pocket, though I may be churning out less noxious fumes if that's what BP would claim.
  • The new Ford / Pug 2.2 twin turbo diesel 10 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Currently have a Passat PD130 with 6-speed box, which has been great, I'm very fond of the motor's punch, performance and 50+mpg on a run. I don't like the "new" Passat's looks so that's out of the running, and I've also tried the Accord and 3-series. Not tried the Avensis yet. thanks, Craig
