  • Volvo Audi - 2 Ltr petrol non Turbo options plus VAG 1.9TDI 11 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I have been trying to find NA 2 ltr petrols as I do have a 3 hour round trip to the office once or twice a week and for larger cars the 1.6 and 1.8 feel that they be tiring to drive. But, lots of little trips mean a turbo may be best avoided. Volvo V50 Estate 2ltr. Looks in good condition, under 100,000 miles and even comes with winter and summer wheels. Quite a high spec as well. Never sat in one though so not sure if the reputation of them being a little cosy is a problem or not.
  • Volvo XC60 60 - Engine replacement 6 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Hi there I’m looking for some guidance on what to do next? I had my Volvo engine replaced in January by a company in Essex claiming on their website to be the “UK’s number 1 engine and gearbox replacement company”.  Shows a pretty impressive website on first viewing and being in a desperate need for the vehicle to be back on the road and promised a 2 year warranty I put my trust in them.
  • Volvo S80 - Car Dealers & Fear of the AA! 19 Feb 2014 (Forum)
So far I've had every trick in the book played at me by a variety of car dealers, and seen some proper wrecks for cars, the result of which has seen me keep my money and walk away. However today I thought for once I might have landed on a good car. It was a 2002 Volvo S80 with only 53,000 miles on the clock. It's been in the dealer for a couple of weeks but hasn't been taxed since November of last year. I did all the usual checks of the car as well as checked the V5 for water marks etc.
  • Volvo 340/360 (1976 - 1991) - Non fault accident - derisory offer from insurance 21 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I had a bodyshop estimate for the damage and they've estimated 544 labour + 130 paint and materials + parts + vat, very reasonable for a new rear bumper and new rear panel and painting to match OK so its a very old car. 1986 Volvo 360 GLEi but its a rare model injection with air conditioning (all working and converted to R134a) and full leather and is in excellent structural condition, mainly because I spent out a lot of money a couple of years back to get all the structural rot put right and a few cosmetic things too....new front wings bumpers etc. but to put it mildly to not even want to come and look at the car and to offer me 200 gbp is frankly derisory.
  • Volvo 740/760 (1984 - 1990) - Should the garage proprietor also do the MOT's? 30 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I was swiftly ushered away into the waiting room (after so many years I'd got sufficient rapport with the previous staff that I did the second mans job during my tests) and could only watch while the poor old Volvo was subjected to the most severe rogering that it has ever experienced, I kid you not, it took as long for the man to type out the two failure and three advisory sheets as it did for the actual test, I suppose he thought at 21 years old and nearly a quarter of a million miles the car deserved nothing less.
  • Volvo Clutch repair botched? Any advice? 17 Aug 2006 (Forum)
My car is a 1992 Volvo 240 SE manual 5-gear estate. The clutch had been slipping for a few weeks so I decided to get it repaired before it failed completely. A week or two ago, I took the car into a garage and asked for the clutch to be replaced.
  • Best 4 x 4 for low car insurance for young driver 20 Jul 2022 (Forum)
He travels 30 miles a day to/from work, four days a week and part of the journey is on country roads with one very steep hill which can get icy in the winter. I am looking for a trendyish 4x4 with relatively low insurance, I like Volvo XC90, but I doubt they could be considered trendy! Any suggestions?
  • Smooth and quiet estate or 4x4 for under £6500 28 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Could people please recommend quiet and smooth estates or 4x4 for under £6500? I'm considering:   Volvo v70, xc70, xc90 Mercedes E Class Citroen C5 Land rover discovery 3   Any other suggestions?
  • Polestar 2 - EV Carbon Footprint 17 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Interesting figures published by Volvo regarding the footprint of a Polestar 2 vs an XC40. To produce the cars, it's 14 tonnes of Co2 for an ICE car, against 24 tones for the Polestar 2. To produce the fuel to power the XC40 will account for 41 tonnes, whilst using a Global mix of generation sources it's 23 tonnes.
  • Yet another lying salesman 7 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Told him we had already driven the T4 but wanted to see if we were still happy with the replacement. The liar told me that he had worked for Volvo for 20 years and had driven petrols and diesels and they all drove exactly the same so no need to test one. Left it at that.
  • Honda Civic - Petrol v diesel hatch 26 Dec 2018 (Forum)
As the title suggests next year I will be looking to replace my diesel volvo v40. I do 16k miles per year and will be looking for a used hatchback up to 2 years old.  I am unsure if to look at a reputable diesel engine in the honda civic for example or look at small turbo petrol engines in the focus or golf for example.
  • Mazda 6 Tourer - Temporary spare wheels. 23 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I have an unused Tempa 17" 125 80 spare wheel kit from my previous Volvo V60. The steel wheel appears to be identical to the extremely expensive (almost £400) Mazda spare wheel kit (125 70 R17), However, the 125 80 R17 is far closer in diameter to the 19" wheels on the Mazda.
  • Doing smallish annual mileage..time for a rethink? 16 Mar 2013 (Forum)
The bigger engined machines tend to last longer and there are some real bargains about....BMWS, Mercs, Volvos etc. On 5k a year thats a hundred gallons @ 50mpg and 200 @ 25mpg, say £600. An older larger car can be a bargain and last you years with tlc. I'm on my 4th year with a3.2 petrol and it cost very little to buy.
  • Motoring stereotypes. 24 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Obvious examples are the teenage menace in an obscenely modified Saxo, and the testosterone-fuelled sales rep charging down the outside lane at X00mph in a boggo basic Vectra or such like. I find it harder to identify certain groups these days, how often do you see a volvo estate full of antique furniture for example? I have noticed that mini-MPVs are predominantly driven by people that HATE cars. The roads are practically full of mimsers in Citroen Picassos.
  • Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 2.5TDI 155bhp - feedback - 1.9tdi vs 2.5tdi 28 May 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I nearly decided to trade in my Volvo S60 2Ltr, and going for a Tdi. I have found a nice A4 2.5tdi. I have been searching he internet, and there is not much reference to this car, pleanty on the Quatro but not the 2WD version. I know this engine is used across the range, and how people find this engine compared to the 1.9tdi, and how would they compare it.
  • Petrol V Diesel 20k per year 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
    Is there a benefit to owning a diesel for 20k miles of motoring per annum? I'd be looking to swap a manual 1.9 TDI passat (130) for an............ automatic 1.8 petrol Volvo V40 Can anyone advise me on the potential difference in fuel costs? Alternatively tell me which other estate to consider upto £4k Thanks in advance {typo in subject header amended}
  • Mitsubishi Carisma (1995 - 2004) - 2004 DI-D Cracking from rear suspension/MOT due 15 Feb 2008 (Forum)
To include a wider audience, this car shares the same floorpan and suspension as the 1996-2004 Volvo S40. The drivability of the car has been getting worse than usual recently, particularly going round corners and general stability (like a drunk on rollerskates!) This cracking/groaning is coming from the back suspension.
  • 'BMW syndrome' amongst HGV Drivers? 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
For instance, would a trucker say, "just look at that - typical Eddie Stobart/Norbert Dentressangle driver!!" or "there's another tailgating (HGV) Volvo driver!"?. Or maybe refusing to let a MAN driver out at a junction on general principle?
  • High street scratch repair 22 Apr 2007 (Forum)
But said national chain is generally known for employing disinterested teenagers, so I'm not sure I trust them with my newly purchased 53 reg Volvo S80 2.5T SE, which I paid £7k for with 50,000 miles on the clock, and suffering scratches to the front, a keyline scratch on the passenger side, and a bit of scratching above the number plate at the back.
  • rubbish estate load area design 9 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The V40 even has a lip! Why oh why are the 3 I want so badly designed? You?d think the likes of Audi / BMW / Volvo would know how to make a little estate.
