• Mazda 2 - Honda Jazz - Toyota Auris - Help Finding The Most Reliable Car 16 Jan 2025 (Forum)
  Here's what I've narrowed it down to: (Engine sizes are a must due to cheaper road tax.) 1) Mazda 2 Auto 1.5 2015-2017 - Pros: It has a TC gearbox, looks amazing, I've been told the high compression engine will make it last longer, but not sure if that's true. Cons: It's small, gearbox is "sealed for life" which means I'd have to buy a low mileage one and change oil myself.

  Hi. I am writing to ask for some help with a vehicle I have recently bought. It is a manual 2017 Mazda 3 diesel with 35,000 miles on it and I have noticed that the gear change doesn’t feel right. I have observed the following behaviour: The gear stick is stiff to change between gears and feels like it is catching or dragging as it changes between gears.

   My car needs are young family with 1 LO.  This is the main car. my wife has a supermini size.  We like the size of the mazda but dont really need it, the boot is never full but we do sometimes carry 4 adults (all small) and 1 car seated child.  After experience of sparce knowedge at indy garages for the mazda and expensive parts I'm hoping common garden variety will be better for me.

  Tested a 2.0l diesel Mazda MPV yesterday and was very surprised at its acceleration and the overall ride quality. It's quite a bit smaller than the Hyundai Trajet I drove a few weeks ago and felt like it. The interior was nicely finished and not too fussy.

  I normally buy my cars at BCA as my father in law is a car dealer so I use his account.  I drove a mazda 6, but its naturally aspirated 2.0 petrol seemed underpowered. I know mazda diesels had issues in the past, I'm not sure if they still do?  It seems my options are limited to a 5 series or E class.

  There was a feature on the Citroen Berlingo (which Clarkson really liked surprisingly), the Pagani Zonda and the new Mazda 6 amongst others. Before getting to the £10k (new) Berlingo, Clarkson was standing by a MK1 Focus and MK4 Golf (both 1.6), talking about that class of car being around £12k new!. The Mazda, and this was the top of the range 2.3 (n/a), under £18k!.

  My instinct is telling me that the bigger engine would be more beneficial, but as I'm wholly non-mechanical I'm reaching out for some buying advice. Based on some Googling, for a city car I'm thinking something like an i10, Mazda 2, or Aygo... Presumably for a bigger hatchback I'd be looking at a Mazda 3, Golf, Polo. I'll also point out that as it is only ever two of us in the car, space is not the issue. The main concerns here are reliability and running costs.

  One of my churchwarden’s husband sadly died a few weeks ago (aged only 48) and their mobility car was taken back within a week or so. As she was without a car I lent her the Mazda to give her some time to shop around for something. Now, a few weeks later, she has enjoyed the Mazda so much (in turns out her husband had a mk1 MX5 as a company car when he was a travelling salesman!)

  Audi...mmm....common as muck and dull and boring unless S series and bone jarring ride and potentially expensive upkeep. BMW....nuff said. Cars I like the look of....Honda Legend, Mazda 6 or 3 MPS, Lexus IS250, Lexus GS300, Mazda 6 high spec Zugara or similar with 2.3l engines. I want something different...I have 3 other cars I can drive...Peugeot 207GTI, Corolla T Sport. They give me the fun factor.

  - so parts could be problem in five years time - I am now wondering whether I look for something like the first generation Mazda 3 1.6  petrol (2008 or 2009). I have also had a look at a  2010 1.6 petrol Suzuki SX4, which I tested but found I needed to get used to the higher driving position. Is the quality of the 2010 SX4 similar to the 2010 Lancer and  would you say the 2008/9 Mazda 3 is higher in quality and reliability than the other two?

  The Polo has terrible MPG for her - I think I worked it out at something like 38 MPG once she got off a tank. That's not brilliant for a slow 1.4. I can get that from my Mazda on a run... Any advice? :)
