  • Skoda Roomster - Noisy Skoda Roomster tappets 17 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I have a 2008 1.4 petrol roomster. The tappets make a very loud noise on tickover and when changing gear. They are quiter at speed. Any suggestions as to what it can be? I have had the oil changed without any benefit.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Confusion over acceptable oil grade to use? 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
In my Ford Focus (UK) petrol owner's guide it says that 5w30 engine oil should be used at all times for optimum performance. However, further down the page below where it says engine oil top-up it says that 5w30, 10w40 or 5w40 oil can be used albeit with reduced fuel economy, performance etc.
  • 1995 cavalier 1.7 TD Smoking out exhaust 26 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi, After a slight error when my wife said the oil light was on, I suggested getting oil and putting a drop in. just enough to last until the weekend... Unfortunately, due to an error in communications, she got oil, put it in. The same night when I got home, I put in some oil...
  • Oil loss 21 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I changed the oil and replaced it with fully synthetic, to which i added a little mineral oil as it seemed to leak the synthetic. Anyway, i've given as much info as possible - can anyone explain the sudden increase in leakage, and the smoke from the bonnet?
  • VW - any - Oilchanging and mixing 11 Jun 2011 (Forum)
My Mk6 Golf is set to longlife services, but being a bit 'old school' i just cannot agree with 18,000 miles or well over a year between oli changes. So at about 9-10 k miles from a service, out comes the trusty Pela extractor, and the oil is swapped. Thing is the oil going in was mostly Carlube triple R, but I also added the remainder of a can of Comma prolife & a little bit of Castrol SLX that was leftover.
  • Nissan Primera II (1996 - 1999) - 1997 1.6 How to fill gearbox oil???? 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
But now I have an even bigger problem as I've lost loads of gearbox oil. I need some help trying to locate where I refill the gearbox oil. Can anyone out there give me any pointers. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks Andy.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1.9d - How much for an exchange engine ? 4 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The wife's 306 1.9d is poorly, spewing oil and water out of the expansion bottle. My first thoughts were that the head and or gasket was pooped, or even the block cracked, but we had the oil cooler changed and it was fine for a week or so but is now back to spewing oil and water everywhere.
  • Correct oil? and price? 5 Jan 2006 (Forum)
, Happy new year... Just want to check something out with you chaps, took my car (mondeo) for an oil change at ATS yesterday as kwik-fit were to busy (cant afford a full service just yet! xmas has hammered me!!) :) to be fair I was really impressed with the service ATS offered i'll be going back for sure.
  • Oil only services 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
For the last year I've been taking it to National Tyres for regular six monthly oil/filter changes, and this is all it needs at the moment. Am I acting wisely, or should it go to the garage annually?
  • Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - 05 2.2 rear diff noises when on full lock 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
For interest, it does about 40mpg, more on a run, and fuel consumption got worse when the egr valve was changed. I've done an additional oil change between annual services, as it does a lot of short runs. Handling was improved when I had 235/60-16 fitted all round, as was noise in the cabin and grip particularly in the wet-recommended.
  • 306 HDi - sooty exhaust 20 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My usually reliable indie declares himself outwitted by a combustion imbalance on my car: 99T showing 37K miles, with oil/filter changes every 6K, coolant changes, etc. For the last 1000 miles a grey cloud had been visible in the r/v mirror when accelerating, and gobs of soot are sometimes ejected at the rear. Other data: oil consumption not measurable between changes; fuel has been up to 60mpg but is falling; starting and running are normal; temp gauge normally just below 80° but went up to 95° in a traffic jam recently.
  • lean and pinking toyota 10 May 2003 (Forum)
The car ran fine before the oil leak and there were no electrical connections on the oil cooler. I cant understand why the car is having this lean running problem and the electrical fault light is showing, any advice would be gratefully received.

  • When should the timing belt be changed on my Citroen? 14 Jul 2021 (Ask HJ)
When should the timing belt be changed on a 2015 Citroen DS3 1.2 petrol? I have searched and found figures of 50,000, 60,000 and 110,000 miles.
  • Oil Additives - Any good? 12 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Negative equity re the finance means the cars will have to run to about 120,000 (very hard) miles before they can be replaced. Is it worth using oil an oil additive to preserve engine life? Are they just a bit of clever marketing, or do they really make a difference? I've always thought that if whatever is in them is any good, the oil producers would be putting the stuff in anyway.
  • What engine oil should I use in my 1980s Polo? 23 Dec 2024 (Ask HJ)

  • 16 Mar 2019 (Forum)
There are places that will carry out a lower cost oil change. Under £50 at National Tyres on a 2015 Leon 1.4 ACT. Although I've never heard of Lukoil. Kwik fit at £55.

  • Ford Focus Hatchback 1.8 TDCi 2001 - Ford Focus TDCi engine seized. 7 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The dealer told me this was impossible, and I reiterated that I was the only person with access to the car, and that I had not added to, or changed the oil.   I would be really grateful if anyone with any knowledge about this could hint at what the problem could be, if it is related to the oil in any way, or if it could be something else?
